GLORIA!

Liturgical Christmas Songs

Introduction
For the joy of Christ’s birth ought to extend far beyond merely listening to carols, no matter
how beautiful. Christmas praises ought to be sung in our own unique voices. The Christmas carols
aim to empower communities so they may enrich and enlivens their Christmas celebration.
We invite listeners to hear anew story of the birth of our Messiah and with awe and
gratitude contemplate and behold the Child, God who has embraced our human condition by
coming one of us.
We hope these songs can help people lift their own voices along with ours to sings of our
anticipation, wonderment, and joy at the coming of the Child we have all come to serve, celebrate
and adore.

Himig ng Hangin
With the cold Christmas wind, most of us are tempted to stay indoors, under covers, where
it’s warm and safe. But the chill wind comes bearing news, blowing open our closed door: Christ
is born! Alleluia! This carol, invites us to ignore the cold wind and welcome the news it brings,
that in blowing open our doors and windows, it may also blow open our hearts.

Noong Paskong Una

This scenario is common enough: a mother sings a lullaby to her child, in order to make
the child sleep and rest. But when the mother is Mary and the child is Christ, the scenario becomes
decidedly uncommon, as all of creation joins in Mary’s lullaby, from the loftiest stars to the
lowliest sheep.

Gloria
It happens only once a year, when all the heavens burst forth with joy because God is with
us. As we remember with bread and wine the risk of that great love, we give glory to the God who
is kind and merciful. Who is love. May we find our hearts sing “Gloria in Excelsis Deo”
