-Problem #1: Positive Material Identification

Gun

- The current machine puts undue stress on the body

- and is inefficient. The machine needs to do the following:
1. The machine/end product must be able to scan the metal
under it consistently.
2. The machine/end product must be able to move in
accordance with the size being scanned.
3. The machine/end product cannot put more stress on the
body than the current method.
4. The end product must be able to be used as quickly as
the current method, or more so.

The Gun
- The model of the Positive Material Identification is for sure
a Niton XL3t-GOLDD. The handbook has been forwarded
to all the managers, who are responsible for distributing it.

Solutions
● Arm mounts
● Lowering the table to reduce the need to bend.
● Ceiling straps
● Bungie from ceiling
● Scanning pod similar to the movements of a 3d printer but scans parts instead of prints
them

Problem #2: Oil Filled Pipes

- The current method for shortening the pipe and attaching parts is poorly streamlined and
can be done better, either through machine or process improvement. The worker must
be able to do the following:
1. The very outer layer needs to removed.
2. Two layers of strands needs to be cut out.
3. The Kevlar strands need to be plucked out and separated from the rest of the pipe.
4. The very inner layer needs to be cut.
5. Attach metal coupling to attach the next hose to the original one.
Solutions
● Combining the horizontal/vertical cutting process into a single step.
● A serrated/fallanged bar to be inserted/rolled to pull out all the strands at once.
● A set of scissors that is in a circle and cuts next to every strand.

Questions For Teledyne

The PMI Gun

1. What different methods have they tried before? (Ask for reasons why they did and didn’t
like those methods)
They use some foam to hold up the gun to relieve stress.
No continuous prototyping phases.
Pg 400 extra device to make it easier to use the gun.
2. What type of material do you use for the insulation while using the PMI gun?
None. They get 3 feet away from the scatter zone so it doesn't affect anyone.
3. How do they currently teach them how to use the PMI gun?
They first go a classroom training then they go through a on hand training with a certified
professional .
4. Are you interested in a in depth PMI gun how to presentation?
No they already have a professional video shows how to use the gun safely. But they would like
to have a description on how to use it.
5. What is the best way to get in contact with the PMI Technician? (So we can get in
contact and ask question)
6. Special requirements?
Yes t 3x5’ 7x7’

There are more than one workstation but they have to move the gun to scan incoming bars ()

The Kevlar Pipe

7. Why is the kevlar strands need to stay? (For the piping)

To keep the integrity of the pipe from leaking
8. Can we see the process of the kevlar pipe being cut?
9. What steps do you have to take to cut the kevlar pipe?
Extras

10. What deliverable do they need? (Presentation structure)(Give Ideas)
