Work Experience
Education and working career combined, I have in the region of 25 years experience in academia
and industry.

Academia:
I have over 2 years experience in lecturing on a part time basis and 1 year lecturing on a full time
basis in GMIT where I have been involved in the delivery of numerous modules across several
programmes in the Building and Civil Engineering Department, which cover topics such as
measurement, estimating, tendering procedures, contracts, cost management, CWMF, health and
safety, site management, BIM MEP, work placement supervision, dissertation supervision, etc.

• Teaching various modules in accordance with learning outcomes, teaching and learning
strategies and syllabus outlined by GMIT.
• Providing academic input into modules.
• Preparation of learning material for modules such as lecture notes, power-point
presentations and case studies to deliver in class.
• Preparation of assessment activities such as setting exams, projects and continuous
assessments including brief, description of required works and marking breakdown.
• Assessing, correcting and grading of submitted materials such as exams, projects and

I have in the region of over 20 years experience working in the building services industry,
covering a range of sectors, including healthcare, leisure and hospitality, education, commercial,
residential and industrial. I have a strong working knowledge of the built environment especially
all related M&E disciplines, sustainability, energy usage and energy efficiency of systems, modern
construction methods, standard building construction, project management, cost planning and
control, health and safety throughout all project phases and stages.
In the course of my working career as a building services consulting engineer, I have been
involved in the design/management/finance of the following M&E services/systems;

• Mechanical systems such as air-conditioning, ventilation, natural ventilation, smoke


exhaust systems, plantrooms, heating services systems, chilled water systems, domestic
water services systems, internal soil and waste, gas services, fire-fighting systems, building
management systems, load studies for utility companies, plant sizing & selection,
renewable energy systems, energy usage, projected energy costs, financial costs.

• Electrical systems such as lighting and emergency lighting systems, power distribution,
main distribution boards/centres, fire alarm systems, protective services, security services,
communication systems, load studies for utility companies, plant sizing & selection,
energy usage, projected energy costs, financial costs.

• Miscellaneous systems such as sprinkler systems, lift/conveyors systems, nitrogen


generating systems, process water systems, medical gas systems, fire suppression systems.
