Weight’s Calibration:
Revision Record:
OBJECTIVE
To calibrate the Conventional Masses in the capacity ranges 1 mg to 1 kg, OIML class F2.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT
Reference or standard weights traceable calibrated OIML class F1.
SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
Weights, Weight Box.
Electronic Balance.
PREPARATION
Verify that the UUC (Unit under Calibration) and standards weights clean and free from obvious
damage that would impair its operation.
Check the instrument by comparing between its nameplate details and specification, if
available.
Ensure that the UUC and the Standards has been acclimatized in accordance to OIML regulation
R 111(room temperature ± 1,5 °C per hour, max ± 2 °C per 12 hours) thermal stabilization
see B.4.3.1
Ensure to select the balance based on the Test Weights. The metrological characteristics of the
weighing instrument used should be known from earlier measurements and its resolution,
linearity, repeatability and eccentricity should be such that the required uncertainty can be
reached.
The reference weight should generally be of a higher class of accuracy than the weight to be
calibrated. In the calibration of weights of class E1, the reference weight should have similar
or better metrological characteristics (magnetic properties, surface roughness) than the
weight to be calibrated.
Check that the air bubble is in the centre of the level and if necessary correct by levelling feet.
Use gloves to handle the both weights and use tweezers for lower weights during the
calibration.
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
A r1
(r2-r1) (r3-r4)
B r2
B r3
(r2-r1)+ (r3-r4)
A r4 M Mean difference (Q) = 2
CALCULATION
While using the standard weights as a master, the following contributions to be included in
the uncertainty calculation.
a. Uncertainty due to the Standard mass from Calibration certificate (Umcs)
b. Uncertainty due to mass differences measurement(u∆m)
c. Uncertainty due to air bouyancy ( ub )
d. Uncertainty due to the resolution of the Balance(uBres)
e. Uncertainty due to the drift of masses (uMd)
f. Uncertainty Due to the Magnetism(uM)
MODEL EQUATION
With the definition of the calibration of Conventional masses for the following
extended mathematical model or model equation in accordance to OIML –R111
