Social Planning

Social planning utilizes knowledge and tools from


demography, geography, anthropology, psychology,
economics, sociology, community development,
management, natural science, architecture, and engineering.
What is Demography?
 The scientific study of the human population primarily with concern to size,
structure and development (United Nations).
 Is the scientific study of the characteristics and patterns of human population
 Social Planning is based in Demography
 Population projections serve as inputs in setting goals, objectives, and targets;
formulation policies and strategies and identifying programs and projects
which form part of the plan
 Sources of population data:
 NSO/PSA Census of Population (every 10 years)
 NSO/PSA surveys (every 3 years)
 Vital registration system (Local Civil Registrar)
 LGU barangay counts
What is Population?

The total number of individuals in a territory at a


specified time. It covers both nationals and aliens;
native-and foreign-born persons, internees, refugees
and other groups physically present within the borders
of a country at a specified time.

Age Dependency Ratio indicates the extent to which those who are too
young or too old to earn a living depend for support on those who work.

This refers to the live births that occur within a

many factors like the start of cohabitation, use of
