Time
One lesson hour.
Content
Learning Outcomes [ASSURE (State Objectives)]
After children are implemented this activity (Condition), children who are between 60-72
months kindergarten students (Audience) will describe their directions (Behavior) of at least
2 ones (Degree) and analyze how they use re-cycling materials for art activity (Behavior).

Motor Development Domain

After children are implemented this activity (Condition), children who are between 60-72
months kindergarten students (Audience), will use their fine motor skills (behavior) %99
accurately (Degree).
Instructional Materials & Media [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)]
Re-cycling materials
Glue, scissors, cardboards, crayons
Computer
Projection
Animoto video
Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)]
Child- centered activity,
Questioning: Teacher always asks open and close-ended questions during the activity
Facilitating: Teacher provide many materials for children activity.
Discussion and Cooperation are used.
Animoto: It used for making videos by using images. Teacher used this for showing spaceship
examples.
Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require
Learner Participation)]
Asking questions about going to space (questioning and directing discussion)
Discussion for designing spaceship (using animoto videos to model spaceships)
Designing and making spaceships as a group (cooperation and facilitating are used)
Riding spaceships in given directions (cooperation)
Individual Learning Activities While producing their spaceship, children will
use their motor skills individually. They will
cut, paste, paint, squeeze and whatever they
need.
Group Learning Activities In this activity, children work as a group.
Discussion before the making and designing
of spaceship are handled by all children. They
need to work cooperatively.
Summary
Spaceship concept is given to children and directions are integrated in this concept.
Measurement & Evaluation
Assessment is made by questions.
Descriptive Questions
1. What's in space?
2. How can space look?
Sensual Questions
1. What did you feel when you went to space?
2. How did you feel while making your own spaceship??
Objective Questions
1. What did you think while your designing your spaceship?
2. What happened if you do not obey the direction rules?
Daily Life Questions
1. Where do you use directions in your daily life?
2. What can you see in space when we look at the sky at night?
Measurement & Assessment Activities After the activity day, children are asked to make
for Individual Performance their own space by using different materials on the
paper. These papers can include drawings,
squeezing papers, paintings etc. In this way,
children’s fine motor skills are evaluated, and
their space understandings are assessed.
Measurement & Assessment Activities After the activity, children are played a game
for Group Performance which includes directions. It is like night and day
game. Children are lined and teacher plays a
music and give instructions. For example, s/he
says that now you go right and now you go back
etc. Therefore, children’s knowledge about
directions is measured.
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
The teacher decorates the art class with a space theme. S/he prepares a model of all the
planets in the solar system, stars, moon, and sun to decorate with this theme. These are can
be 3d models or large printouts of these planets, stars, moon and sun. They are arranged in
proportion to their order and dimensions in the solar system. The only thing important here is
to prepare an environment where children can discover them. The teacher goes to the normal
class after preparing the art class. S/he dresses in the astronaut suit s/he prepares for
himself/herself and waits children. (Any costume that looks like an astronaut suit can be
prepared, it can be formed from aluminum foil, made from garbage bags or costume can be
rented.) S/he also opens a huge sun gif from the projection of the class. When children come
to class, the teacher meets them as if s/he is walking in space. Children are talked about
where the teacher might be and who s/he is. The children are talked about until they get an
astronaut and space response, and the teacher asks the children what they know about going
to space, asks the children what they can use to travel to space. S/he takes ideas from the
children and after taking spaceship answer, children are grouped, and they are expected to
design their spaceship as a group. S/he then says that everyone who wants to travel to space
come and pick up their own spaceship material and then they start building it. Children
design and decorate their spaceships as they wish. After all the kids have prepared the
spaceship, the teacher goes to the top with the astronaut suit and say that follow me little
astronauts because our space journey begins. The children take the spaceships and they are
lined up behind the teacher and the teacher takes them to the art class s/he has already
prepared. When the children come to the art class, the teacher tells them that they should
study planets and others carefully. Children are said that spaceships should not hit each other
in the space, for this space leader(teacher) gives some instructions to you and you must obey
these instructions. These are like Ahmet, Elif and Ece’s spaceship goes to back or right.
Thus, children can reinforce their directions knowledge.

Back up plan for the activity

The teacher uses Piktochart or other apps, and make a big spaceship poster to take children
attention and to show them examples of spaceships when the case of the computer fails or
electricity cut.
