6.1 Intended us~.- The OOlllpOIlellts covered by tb1s specifioation are :1nteDded for
use in aircraft Iijdi'iiillc S7Stems conforming to Specif1oation Mn.-Jl..S440, at operating
pr.essures which do not «%eeed those spec1tied in the applicable !H or MS drawing- or
deta:ll specification, and with hydrl!-Ullc fluid conforming to Specit1cation m..-o-%Q6.
6.1.1 The oOI'l'OBion-resisting properties of ferrous JIIetals shall be equ:1:nlent to
those of the 11)0011 series of corrosion-resisting steels, such as 18-8 stsel; those of the
nonferrous JIIetals should ca.pa:re with anodized 24S'l' alum:1I1Ul11 alloy. Plated coatings of
tin, as-percent tin~ 15-peroent cadlldlDl a.1.l..O)', chromi1Dll, and niokel, are considered to
offer satisfaotory surface protection for hydraulic-s;ysteIII COlllpODenta. The tJpe and
thickness of the plating, however, should be so selected as to prcm.de adequate protec- ­
tion against the corroBion and wear oOIlditions under which the part JIIl1St function.
Internal surfaces which are in oonstant contact vith hydraulic fluid 11119" be considered___ ._
adequately protected against corro~. ­
6.2 Ord~ata.- Oontracts and orders ahcmld state the part millibar of the

6.) Provisicns for Qualification tests.- In the procu:reIIIent ot products requiring

qualification, the r:tibt is r8Serred to reject bids on products that have not baeD sub­
jected to the :required tests and found satisfa.ator.r for inclusion on a QualUied Products
List. The attention of suppliers is called to this requ1reJllent~ and lII8.l1I1facturere are
urged to arrange to have the products that they propose to. otfer to the Federal Qcmmmlent
tested for qualification in order that they 11119" be eligible to be anrded oontraote or
orders for the products oovered by this apeo1:fioation. Requests for information pertain­
ing to qualif1ca.tion of products covered by this specification should be addressed to the
