This was partly due to the lack of test systems capable of reproducing these
effects and the complexity of test systems that were developed to carry out
such work.
A number of advanced computer/software controlled systems allow the
geotechnical engineer to perform the most complex test regimes via a
user-friendly software interface.
On-site training
Our team of skilled professionals are available
to carry out intensive on-site training
Introduction
This test determines the rate and
magnitude of consolidation of a soil
specimen restrained laterally and
subjected to a number of successive
increments of vertical loads. This mea-
sure is a requirement of the founda-
tion, road and soils engineer.

Introduction
The Hydrocon series overcomes the 26-WF0345 with transducer
complexity usually associated with
- Hydraulic loading
hydraulic oedometers and allows more - Low friction design
information to be gathered from the - No weights required
soil sample. - Compact design occupies less space
than conventional oedometers
Pore water pressure is measured using
- Possibility of automatic data acquisition
a pressure transducer and vertical - Incremental or constant rate of loading
settlement using a linear strain trans- tests
ducer. The chamber consolidation - Suitable for compacted clay
- Maximum pressure 3500 kPa
pressure may also be measured with a
pressure transducer if required or with
a standard pressure gauge.
As the Hydrocon is a confined con-
solidation system, it is possible to
measure both pore and back pressure
during testing. In addition it is also
possible to make accurate permeabil-
ity measurements.

With this test method the shear strength is measured in terms of effective stress. At Piston
least three specimens are saturated, allowed to consolidate (i.e. to change its struc-
ture and water content) at different level of confining pressure before failure. Due
to the fact that shear strength increases raising the effective stresses the Coulomb’s
model can be applied in terms of effective stress: Lateral pressure
t = c’ + s’n tg f’
SOIL
where:
No
t = shear resistance drainage
s’n = effective normal stress
c’, f’ = parameters of Mohr envelope in terms of effective stress
Pore pressure
During the failure stage the specimen is not allowed to drain and pore pressure is (transducer)
measured, so that the effective stresses are calculated as the difference between the
total stress and the pore pressure. Piston

General Description
The AUTOTRIAX 2 software is a comprehensive
and user-friendly interface between the opera-
tor and the testing system. Installed on a PC
communicating with the system over a fast
Ethernet connection, the software can be used
to configure the system(s), calibrate transduc-
ers, specify test parameters, set system limits
and control the system during a test, either
manually or automatically. Due to the flex-
ibility of the software, each triaxial system can
either have its own, dedicated PC, or multiple
systems can be run from one PC.
The software includes three modules with the

Introduction
The main advantage of GEODATALOG is to record and monitor in real time Communication ports: RS232 and USB for
whichever measurement involved in a general test carried on in a soil mechanics data download to PC with software included
laboratory. The different transducers can be set up and grouped so that a single
test can involve as many measurements as required: all these transducers will On-board firmware

clays
- Degradation of shear stress cohesive
soils under cyclic loading
- Evaluation of the liquefaction
parameters of non coesive soils
