SLE Reflection
When I first heard that we had to do a service learning activity based on our topic, I
didn’t know what or where to start. I started regretting why I chose “ Stereotype” as my topic,
because there was not community organization in which I could team up with in order discuss
the impact of stereotype in our society. At first I wanted to change my topic, start all over
from writing research paper to creating my power point. So I when to speak to my mentor
and asked he if he think it right for me to change my topic and redo my research paper, he
told that wasn’t wase, and that I should create my own service learning activity. After talking
to him, I still didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew that I wanted to have conversation
with people. So for my SLE, I decide to create a video and a survey so I could learn more
about peoples view on stereotypes. One of the main obstacle I faced, was finding people
willing to be interview. But I later found five great people willing to set down with me and
answer some questions about stereotypes. After finishing the video, I thought to myself that it
wasn’t enough just to film people. I thought about the people that had something to say, but
didn’t want to be film, so I create a survey and tough a class at my friend’s club“ Lift Every
Voice”, where we also had a group conversation about how we could stop stereotyping each
other. How we can learn to listen to one and other. One thing that I have learn throughout this
process and how similar why all are, and how we need to stop accepting stereotypes that
people place on us. If I could do one thing different I would talk to more people.
