Trouble Shooting
Every reasonably effort is made to insure every cartridge of Roadware 10 Minute Concrete mender
is easy to use and trouble free. Below is a list of possible problems, their causes and suggested
solutions.

Problem: Material does not cure.

Cause: Material was not mixed properly.
Solution: Make sure all start-up procedures are follwoed. Check for any blockage of cartridge
openings.

Problem: Material is slow to cure.

Cause: Low ambient temprature.
Solution: This material will set in approximately 10 minutes at 72oF. Cooler concrete and sand
temperatures will increase cure time.

Problem: Cartridge is hard to pump or surges off ratio.

Possible Cause: Rear plunger is sticking. Slight leakage (mostly found in partially used cartridges)
has caused the “A” (light coloured) material to crystallize on the plunger causing sticking and
surging.
Solution: Carefully rim the skirt of the plunger seal with a small, flat screwdriver.
Possible Cause: Material has cured inside the static mixer or back-flo restrictor.
Solution: Replace static mixer and back-flo restrictor if needed.

Problem: Cured material shows intensive marbling and striations.

Possible Cause: Inadequate mixing.
Solution: Follow start up procedures carefully. Make sure all air pockets are bled off before
application. Use medium even strokes when applying material.
Possible Cause: Improperly placed or missing back-flo restrictor.
Solution: Make sure the wipers in the back-flo restrictor line up with the openings in the cartridge.
Hold the static mixer in place when securing the retaining nut to prevent the back-flo restrictor from
twisting.

Problem: Material foams or bubbles when curing.

Cause: Mositure is in contact with the material.
Solution: Apply to dry surfaces only.

Clean Up
Wipe tool clean with a rag before material is allowed to cure. Cured material may be removed by
abrading with a wire brush or soaking in acetone, xylene, MEK, or epoxy thinner. USE EXTREME
CARE WHEN WORKING WITH INDUSTRIAL SOLVENTS.

10 Minute Concrete Mender is very aggressive and will stain exposed skin. Gloves should be worn to
keep material from contacting skin. In the event of skin contact, remove immediately with an
industrial paint and stain hand cleaner.

Disposal Methods
Empty cartridges may be disposed of with normal waste disposal methods in accordance with local
environment control regulations.

Unused material is best disposed of by mixing equal parts of Side A and Side B and allowed to cure
in a waste container. Cured material may then be disposed of with normal methods.

ACTION TO TAKE FOR SPILLS/LEAKS: Properly protected personnel should contain spill. Ventilate
area, cover spill with sawdust or other absorbent material. Scoop and place in open container and
treat with decontamination solution (93% water, 5% ammonia, 2% detergent) Leave open in a
ventilated area for 24 hours.

5. BULK APPLICATION

Tools & Supplies

Getting started: Always use safety glasses when working with any concrete repair project. Always
read the label on the container and follow all safety instructions.

You will need buckets, a margin trowel, a finishing stone, and 30 - 40 grit manufactures silica sand.
Do not use beach sand, concrete sand or most natural sands.

Preparation
Use a dry diamond blade to remove all loose debris and clean the repair down to solid concrete. For
high traffic areas, carve a small edge around the repair with the diamond blade to create a solid
transition. Use a shop vacuum to emove dust and debris. Always use the appropriate safety
equipment when cutting concrete.

CIVIL & PRECAST

• 1/2 Part Side (A)

1 Measure one part of side A into a container. For this batch we are using 118mls. We do not
recommend batches larger than 1.9L per side due to fast setting nature of Roadware 10 Minute
Concrete Mender.
• 1/2 Part Side (B)
Measure one part of side B into a container. For this batch we are using 118mls. We do not
recommend batches larger tha 1.9L per side due to fast setting nature of Roadware 10 Minute
Concrete Mender
• 1 to 1 Ratio
The mixing ration is one part side (A) to one part side (B) by volume. Do not alter this ratio. Pictured
above is 118mls of side (A) and 118mls of side (B) for a total of 236mls when mixed together.
• Mix 10 Seconds
Pour one side into a larger mixing bucket and add the other side to it. Mix by hand or slow speed drill
mixer for about 10 seconds.

• Add 2 Parts Sand

Pour 473mls of silica sand by volume into the 236mls of mixed liquid Concrete Mender
• Mix
Mix by hand until well blended. Up to 118mls of additional sand may be added to get the desired
consistency
• Check Consistency
Tap the side of the bucket to check for the proper consistency. If the top surface looks wet, you have
it just right.

• Place
Working quickly, place the mixed material into the repair area. The entire batch must be used within
5 minutes or less, depending on the batch size and temperature.
• Check Saturation
Trowel back some material and make sure the Concrete Mender is wetting out the surface of the
concrete. If the surface is not solid or the concrete is of poor quality, you may need to “prime” the
surface with pure mixed liquid Concrete Mender.
• Trowel Once
Continue to make the repair. Use the entire batch before it sets. Do not attempt to “fix” a dry
setting batch by adding more liquid. Do not over work the material. Just a once over with a clean
trowel and let the material set.

• Finish in 10 Minutes
Allow to cure until repair turns grey in colour (about 10 minutes at 21C), finish smooth with a
rubbing brick, sander or concrete polisher.
• Blend in
Use extra silica sand as grit to give you smooth finish
• Open for Traffic
Finished repair is now ready for coating, polishing or heavy traffic

6. TIPS
Best practices, storage and Transportation
1. Keep cartridges in original foil bag and store in an upright position.
2. Store on a cool dry place between 10 - 25 degrees C. If cartridges are allowed to freeze below -10C
some material seperation can occur. Return material to 25C and shake or mix to be re-blend before
use.
3. Handle with care. Punctures to the bag can cause mositure contamination. Rough handling can
cause cartridge cracking and leakage.
4. Ship in upright orientation in original shipping containers.

Usage
5. Read and follow illustrated instructions.
6. Use gloves and safety glasses. Concrete Mender is very thin and can splash back if applied
erratically.
7. Make sure the flow-restrictor and mixer seat properly
8. Use a new flow-restrictor and mixer every time.
9. Small cracks less thean 2mm should be cut open to 5mm for best results. The 5mm cut will
form a “well” for the product to accumulate as it soaks down into the crack and will reduce
material spreading on the surface away from the repair area.
10. Once material is flowing from the mixer, keep the tip pointed down. Use the thumb release on
the gun to stop the flow.
11. Discharge the material from the cartridge firmly. Working too slowly can cause poor mixing.
12. Always apply coating of Concrete Mender into the crack or spall before adding sand. This will
give you better penetration and bonding.
13. When applying with sand, make sure the sand and repair area are completely saturated with
concrete Mender.
14. Use a shop vacuum or compressed air to remove as much dust and contaminated from the
repair area.
15. If you suspect there is water on the bottom of the crack that you cannot remove, repair the
bottom half first and allow it to cure (turn grey) before repairingthe top half.
16. When working at below 0 degrees C, use a propane torch or similar method to remove any
surface frost from the concrete before applying the material. Keep Concrete Mender and sand
at room temperature before use.
17. Needle tip mixers are great for better control and pinpoint application. They also can easily
clog up when left filled with mixed product. Do not try and force a mixer or tip to clear by
adding more force to the gun. You can blow out the rear seals and cause a mess. Get a new
mixer or tip and start over.
