High Expectations For All!
The Reputation and
Representation Of
Hazelwood East High
We can say, with certain conviction, that
‘most of the students in this class (AP Lit)
are in some way victims of this problem.
Outside of the teachers that we have,
‘our excellence is very rarely recognized.
We are left to deal with the reputation
set forth by other students. On a
semester basis we are hoarded into
meetings with the class, not to
recognize those that are succeeding, but
to talk about those who are doing less
than well, Hearing about the
shortcomings of a small population of.
the school is disheartening and blocks
from furthering the school itself.

Hazelwood East's reputation has
never been the best, but it is now
at an all time low. To make
matters worse, the students that
are representative of the school
are the ones that bring it down.
Instead of hearing about the
students that are excelling or
doing good for the community, it
seems that we are only reminded
of those are partaking in activities
that are negative. The school
continually addresses those who
are behind, fighting, not attending
school and the such. The students
who are excelling in academics,
sports, or in their community are
rarely addressed or recognized by
both the media or the school itself
(besides from the teachers who
have them),
Our Solution
Our solution is simple, recognize
those that are putting the school in
a positive light. Lets hold meetings
that recognize the students that
are doing well. PBIS incentives can
be used to recognize students on a
‘school wide level. Give the media
something to tell about, recognize
the students who spend their
weekends doing community
service, or the students that are
excelling in school. Give the
parents a reason to be proud of
the school that their children are
attending by focusing on the
positive, There will always be those
that will break the rules, but
casting aside the students that
follow them and do well only
brings down the school. By
recognizing those who are
excelling it will inspire more
Who Do We Go To?
There is not 1 set person that we
need to turn to to solve our
problem. The first of people to
speak to would be our school's
principals. We would need them
to pass whatever ideas we bounce
off of them, whether it be PBIS
incentives or meetings. We could
also speak to teachers to try and
convince them to help create and
curate these incentives and
meetings. Itis also down to the
students. We need to speak up for
ourselves and fight for the
recognition that we deserve. It is
down to us to make this change;
to plan the meetings and
incentives; to change the
reputation of the school!
