SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

December 15, 2013

Slide 1 Happy 3rd Sunday of Advent dear bros and sisters.

Our reflection today is so vital to the spirit of the season. Today

let us discuss the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Slide 2 Nakakalungkot pero society seems to have lost a sense of sin.

As Catholic followers of Christ, we must make an effort to
recognize sin in our daily actions, words and omissions. Kaya
napakahalaga pong maunawaan natin the value of the
Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Slide 3 The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as

Penance or Penance and Reconciliation) has three elements: 1)
conversion (penance – contrite heart)

Slide 4 2) Actual confession (divulging the sins to the priest –proper

minister)

Slide 5 3) Celebration (Satisfaction) Because God rejoices whenever a

sinner repents.

Out of his great love, Jesus instituted this sacrament so that

sinners who truly repent may be reconciled to God and to those
they have hurt. When we make a good confession we
are restored to the fullness of grace with God. The sacrament
“washes us clean,” and renews us in Christ.

Ang sarap di po ba? Pero teka…

Slide 6 Why should we confess to a priest when others say we can

confess daw “straight to God?” Di ba it seems hard, scary, even
a bit humiliating?

Bros and sisters we go to confession because it is a sacrament

given to us by Christ, and it has always been a practice of the
Church.
Slide 7 Jesus promised this special, sacramental grace, when, on
Resurrection Sunday, He told none but His Apostles that He
was sending them as He Himself had been sent—and
breathing on them the Holy Spirit. Jesus commissioned them to
forgive people’s sins (John 20:20-23).

Slide 8 According to the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215 we should make

a sacramental confession at least once a year and try our best
to do the penance given to us by the priest. We should also try to
receive reverently holy communion at least during Easter time."
The church is still following this rule.

What is most important is to understand that in the Sacrament of

Penance –whatever sin is committed- if sinners recognize it
humbly and entrust themselves to the priest confessor, they will
always experience the soothing joy of God's forgiveness".

Slide 9 Regular confession is a healthy spiritual practice. We could do it

every month or two and reflect on how well we have lived a
"Christ-like life” by following the commandments and the
teachings of the Church.

Slide 10 Paka alalahanin po natin it’s not the confession that is scary…
nope…. It is our sins especially our mortal sins that are
SCARY. Kaya let us not delay our Holy Confession.

Slide 11 If you need help – especially if you have been away for some
time–simply tell the priest and he will help you.

May the Holy Spirit continue guiding us throughout this season.

A Joyful Sunday to all of you.
