FOREWORD

The teacher is a component of education that plays an important role in teaching and
learning activities. The position of the teacher is an important position in the world of
education, especially in formal education institutions. Therefore, the certification policy for
teachers and lecturers is indeed a strategic step to be able to improve the quality of education
in Indonesia.
Teacher competency is a set of mastery abilities that must exist within the teacher in
order to be able to realize performance appropriately and effectively. While professional
teachers are teachers who have special abilities and expertise in the field of teacher training
so that they are able to carry out their duties and functions as teachers with maximum
abilities.
The teacher is a person who is very influential in the teaching and learning process. It
is proper for a teacher to be given welfare in the form of certification. It is understandable
that certification is the process of giving educator certificates to teachers who have met
certain requirements, namely having academic qualifications, competence, physical and
spiritual health, and having the ability to realize national education goals accompanied by
improved welfare.
A. DESCRIBING THE SCHOOL (SDN 213 PINRANG)

The school was named SD 213 Pinrang, established in 1979, and accredited B. Which
is now headed by Hj. Asmawaty, in this school there are 7 educators / teachers, 83 male
students and 69 female students recorded in the 2018-2019 school year. There are 6 study
groups / six classes and 1 library, and also in this school use the curriculum: K-13 and also
state status, organizing teaching and learning begins in the morning until noon. This school is
located at Jl. Tassokkoe axis - Salo, Salo Village, Watang Sawitto District, Pinrang Regency.
B. INTERVIEW WITH ENGLISH TEACHERS IN SDN 213 PINRANG

1. Asma, S.Pd.I
Ms. Asma is one of the English teachers from two English teachers in Sdn 213
Pinrang, now she is 32 years old, she started teaching in 2009 until now, so about 10
years she taught English. She not only taught English but other subjects also like
mathematics and also he is a homeroom teacher. Her experience in teaching has been
overwhelming because she also established an English language course and often
participated in several teacher trainings. And also now he is pursuing a Masters
degree.

What the teachers perpective about teacher professional:


1. What difficulties did the teacher get when teaching English and how do you
deal with it?
“The student doesn't understand what i say and most of them just confused when i
explained the lesson and also some of them are not interested to study English
because of confuse, but don't worry about these i have many methods to teach my
students, so thay will enjoy my lesson and active in my class and most of them
will be liked to study English. By gaming also make them happy to study English
because they can understand what i have explained on my lessons”

2. Give your perception about "how important is the professional development of


teachers in education"?
“I think the improvement of teacher profesional is very important because why
teacher can divide the the job in home and the job in the school. The teacher
profesional is the human is very actively in this world because they can manage
their time both of family and school so and think be a mother and teacher is a little
complicated but i enjoy my mylife because i manage my time. And also i can
divide my time to my students”

3. What efforts should be made by a teacher in developing his professionalism


especially for English teachers?
“The effort that needs to be done by teachers to develop their professional, namely
the first curriculum 13 which applies in schools in English learning we need to
develop learning but we are still in curriculum 13 although it is different from the
previous curricula I think this curriculum is very strong because the government
has changed the second curriculum of the method of distribution what needs to be
developed as an English teacher we need to multiply the method because in
today's era students get bored with old methods. Then the third thing that needs to
be developed is the teacher himself because many teachers who teach are only
fixated on the book even though they should be able to learn outside of the
contents of the book but still be related to the material the students want to
achieve. If a teacher is smart then students will also be smart because the teacher
must pass on his knowledge to his students”

4. What competencies should a professional teacher have?


“Competencies that must be owned by professional teachers where a teacher is
able to manage classes and learning and is able to utilize learning media. then,
Social where the teacher is able to communicate with his students and understand
what he wants by his students and transfer the knowledge he has to his students
and the last personality where a teacher is required to be a person who reflects a
good teacher and is able to make his students obedient. And students can imitate
the good behavior of a teacher”

5. What efforts have you made in developing the professionalism of teachers,


especially English teachers?
“What I have done is to develop learning, and make students confident to be able
to speak English. And being a teacher person who is truly professional in
educating students, I always on time come to class and come out when the time is
over. I also made my students English club to make them active in English later.
And practice their skills and confidence to speak English”

2. Nur Asia, S.Pd.I


Ms. Nur Asia is one of the English teachers of two English teachers in Sdn 213
Pinrang, now she is 26 years old, she began teaching in 2013 until now, so around 6
years she taught English. She not only taught English but she is a homeroom teacher.
He often attended teacher training as well as several seminars both domestically and
abroad. He is also one of the volunteers in teaching for street children.
What the teachers perpective about teacher professional:
1. What difficulties did the teacher get when teaching English and how do you deal
with it?
“Because English is a new thing for some students so they are confused and don't
understand what I say and I teach, so it takes extra patience to teach them so they
understand. To teach new things, they need a special teaching method, but I
already have a separate method to teach English students.”

2. Give your perception about "how important is the professional development of


teachers in education"?
“Teacher's professional development is very important for all teachers and of
course me too, because a teacher must have a professional attitude in teaching to
know what methods are suitable for his students and things that are good are given
to students. and also can balance or share himself with his profession as a teacher
when at school and as a mother when at home”

3. What efforts should be made by a teacher in developing his professionalism


especially for English teachers?
“the effort that needs to be done by the teacher in developing his professional, first
must have a guide or knowledge about professional teachers that can be obtained
of course through teacher training because all teachers are indeed required to
attend teacher training. after having a handle or guideline a teacher can apply it to
students he teaches maybe from ordinary teaching to extraordinary”
4. What competencies should a professional teacher have?
“There are several competencies that should be possessed by a teacher, namely
first pedagogic competency, namely the ability of a teacher to manage the class,
then personality competencies in social competence which can communicate with
students and even their parents and the most important competency is professional
competence both in science, technology and even includes the three things I
mentioned earlier, so a teacher must have this competence in order to become a
professional teacher”
5. What efforts have you made in developing the professionalism of teachers,
especially English teachers?
“The effort that I have done so far is to apply what I have received during teacher
training, such as withdrawing boring classes, and also providing lessons that are
not only focused on one media”
