SOLAR POWER PLANT

INTRODUCTION
Recently we have visited a solar power plant regarding industrial visit. The plant
visit is very useful we have come to know various things in practical which enhanced our
knowledge. Here are some brief notes regarding our visit which I come to know during the visit.
The plant is situated in a vast area of 350 acres of land and plant capacity is around
43MW. It is nearly a 400 crores project. The plant consists of 10 IC pad units. On the day of our
visit we have seen the total generation is of 4798MWhr. In the plant the total working hours are
from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and after 6:00 pm they will have maintenance of the plant.

Some of the components that are used in the

plant
component type number of components
used/ratings
Solar panels ● Poly silicon(blue colour) 1,70,000 panels are used/each string
produces 650 to 850 volts.
(it has medium efficiency and low in cost)
● Thin film(black colour)
(low efficient and cost is also low)

Two 15 Amps fuse are used and output

Combiner box ---------------------------
of this combiner box is 650 to 850 volts.

Tracking system Single tracking system(north-east)

For every 10 minutes of period there will
be 2 degrees shift in the panel direction.

Inverter --------------------------------- To start the inverter about 650 volts of

voltage should be fed to the inverter and
then we need to start it.
Transformer 2.2MVA transformer

Scada Used for analysis of total ratings of plant

and capacity and also for observing
faulty cases. Also to operate from one
place.

Working
Solar panels consists of one full string and two off strings one string consists of 42
panels and each off string consists of 21 panels. Each panel consists of 72 cells which works on
pn junction diode principle and each cell produces a voltage of 0.8 volts and each panels produces
38 volts as output and output across combiner box will of a full string is 650 volts 30 Amps and
this voltage is fed to the inverter. An inverter requires 650 to 850 volts DC to run the inverter.
At the inverter side it converts the DC voltage to AC voltage and this voltage is fed
to the transformer which is further stepped up to 132 Kv and it is fed to the transmission lines
and as every plant consists this plant also consists of scada unit where plant is operated. In the
transformer we can observe a tap changer to change the tappings of a transformer to increase
or decrease number of turns in transformer windings and thereby increase or decrease voltage
ratings.
Also a gaseous element SF6 used as a protective element to cool the transformer
and also to quench the arc on opening circuit.
