INPUT DEVICES

1. Computer keyboard:
 A keyboard is an input device that contains keys users press to enter data and
instructions into a computer.

FIG[1]

Types of keyboard
1) Standard keyboard
2) Ergonomic Keyboard
3) Laser or Infrared Keyboard
I. Standard Keyboard:

Also known as the Desktop Keyboard • include alphabetic characters, punctuation

symbols, numbers and a variety of function keys.
FIG[2]

II. Ergonomic Keyboards:

It is a computer keyboard designed with ergonomic considerations to minimize the

chance of wrist and hand injuries

FIG[3]

III. Laser or Infrared Keyboard:

This device projects the keyboard on to a flat surface, such as a table or desk.

2. Computer Mouse:( https://www.slideshare.net/AqsaMushtaq7/mouse-

hardware)

 A mouse is an external computer hardware device.

 It allows a user to control the motion of a computer cursor.
 It also select objects on the screen by moving and clicking the device.
 During the 1980’s, computer mice became the dominant way for people to
interface with personal computers after testing with various devices showed it to
be the most convenient and simple to use.
 The mouse works on the basic principle that the movement of the device is
translated into the movement of the cursor on the screen.
FIG [5]

TYPES OF MOUSE:
IV. OPTICAL MOUSE :
 An optical mouse is an computer pointing device that uses a light-emitting diode
an optical sensor, and digital signal processing ( DSP ).
 This mouse doesn’t have mouse ball and electromechanical transducer.
 Movement is detected by sensing changes in reflected light, instead of
interpreting the motion of a rolling sphere.

FIG [6]
V. WIRELESS MOUSE:
 The Mouse without wire or cord is called wireless mouse or cordless mouse.
 Most wireless mice use radiofrequency (RF) technology to communicate
information to your computer.

FIG [7]

VI. GSTICK MOUSE:

 Gordon Stewart designed the Stick to add a more authentic and natural feel to
artistic manipulations on both Macs and PCs.
 These mice are Wireless and pocket-sized. It looks like a pencil.
 GStick mouse is like a pencil.
 It can be used for web browsing, office work or whatever you do with your
traditional mouse, with more comfort.
FIG [8]

VII. TRACKBALL MOUSE:

 A trackball mouse is a pointing device.
 It consists of a ball held by a socket containing sensors to detect a rotation of the
ball>
 The user rolls the ball with the thumb, fingers, or the palm of the hand to move a
pointer.

FIG [9]
VIII. MECHANICAL MOUSE OR BALL MOUSE:
 A mechanical mouse is a computer hardware input device comprised of a metal
or rubber ball in its underside.
 Moving the mouse causes the ball to roll, and sensors inside the mouse detect
the movement of the ball and consequently send signals to the cursor on the
screen

FIG[10]

3. JOYSTICKS:
 Used in playing computer games and simulations to mimic actual controls.

4. Web Cameras:
 (WEBCAMS) Used in video conferencing. That is, chatting online and at the
same time displaying the images of the people in the conversation.

5. MICROPHONE:
 It is Used to input speech/ sounds to be used in various applications and also in voice
recognition software.
OUTPUT DEVICES

6. MONITOR:

 It is a most common peripheral in computer is graphic display device.

 Increasing demand for display of graphics, diagrams and pictures to make
visual presentation of information more effectively.
 Easy user interaction and decision making.
 A monitor or display (also called screen or visual display unit) is an electronic
visual display for computers.
 Graphic display is made up of a series of serial dots(picture elements) called
“pixels” whose pattern produces images.
 Main categories of display screen:
 Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)
 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
 Light Emitting Diode (LED) ▪ Plasma Display

7. PRINTER:
 In computing, a printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human-
readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical
media.
 Printer was invented by Johannes Gutenberg.

FIG[14]
Types Of Printer:-

1. Impact Printer :-
 An impact printer makes contact with the paper.
 It usually forms the print image by pressing an inked ribbon against the
paper using a hammer or pins. Eg. Dot-Matrix , Daisy Wheel, Etc.

2. Non-Impact Printer :-
 Non-impact printers do not use a striking device to produce characters on
the paper; and because these printers do not hammer against the paper
they are much quieter. Eg. Inkjet , Laser, Etc.

8. PROJECTOR:

 A projector or image projector is an optical device that projects an image

(or moving images) onto a surface, commonly a projection screen.
 Projector was invented by Charles Francis Jenkins.

9. LOUDSPEAKER:

 A loudspeaker (or "speaker") is an electro‐acoustic transducer that produces

sound in response to an electrical audio signal input.

10. PLOTTERS:

 Excellent for scientific and engineering applications.

 Very high resolution .
 Image transferred to paper with ink pens .
 Used by graphic designers/architects .

11. MICROPROCESSOR:
 Brain or Engine of a computer is called Processor or Microprocessor or Central
Processing Unit (CPU ) which is a very important chip found inside computer.
 It is the component in a digital computer capable of executing a program.
 It is sometimes called a logic chip which carries out many computer functions.
 It interprets computer program instructions and processes data.
 Microprocessor is often abbreviated MPU for Microprocessor Unit or just MP.
 The microprocessor is the heart of any normal computer. It is the most
expensive single component found inside the system.
 Intel is world leader in Microprocessor.
