Ashish Rajpal
I am delighted to share with you XSEED Stories - a selection of 25 letters
written to us by the leaders of XSEED member schools across the country
describing the impact XSEED had on their children.
Through real anecdotes from children, teachers and parents, these letters
paint a picture of what authentic learning actually looks like - children
experimenting with their own hands, solving real world problems, and
building the unafraid character needed to face life. They also prove that
when teachers are equipped with the right tools and support, they can
bring lessons to life in their classrooms.
Set in big cities and small towns, serving both the needy and the affluent
children and located at every nook and cranny of India, these stories
prove that context and resources do not limit progress.
XSEED has crossed an important milestone of reaching one million
children. While these numbers make us very happy, what makes us truly
proud is the visible impact XSEED has had on how children actually learn,
how teachers teach - as a result of which there is a huge improvement
in schools.

XSEED has a unique way of explaining concepts, making it easier for
children to understand them, be it Math or English. Focusing more on creative
writing in English is helping children develop good communication skills and
better comprehension. With prior knowledge about the strands, we can
standardize teaching methodologies and teachers can give proper instructions
to the students.
A fine example of how activities are enabling learning, is when Grade 6
students were trying to measure the angles of a given triangle with the
purpose of deducing that the sum of the angles is 180 degrees. They were
measuring the angles wrongly and were unable to draw the right conclusion.
The teacher had an idea, stemming from lesson plans where students had used
straws to make angles. The teacher took a long straw and asked the students
to identify the angle and its measure. They immediately said that it was a
straight angle measuring 180 degrees. Then she asked them what would
happen if this straight angle were bent make a triangle? The students
immediately answered that 180 degrees gets divided among the three angles
of the triangle.
Each lesson plan in XSEED suits the three types of learners – visual,
auditory and kinesthetic. It makes the learner to think and apply the concept in
real life situations. It also gives them an opportunity to take on higher
challenges.

Dear XSeed Team,

It’s our fourth “XSeed year” at RVG Matric and the amazement of the initial days’ occasional sparks, when we
would be “surprised” at what an XSeed lesson plan could bring out in the classroom, has given way to the
sense of achievement of tangible long term results. Shared clarity of purpose, deep understanding of
concepts, focus on application, higher order thinking, confidence in expression and effective class
management have become our norm. Our students revel in a methodology that puts them at the center, is
fun, though relevant, and introduces them to cooperative learning strategies. Our teachers enjoy the
scaffolding of a well structured curriculum, the detailed support of the lesson plans and an assessment system
well aligned with the learning outcomes. Our parents are ecstatic at the awakening of the inquisitive spirit in
their children and grateful that such methodology has been made available to rural children in a village school.

Mother of VII grade: “The method of colours they’ve used for algebra is very clear, so my daughter is
explaining it to our neighbor of VIII standard”.
Father of V grade: “After the lesson on earning and savings, my son explained to me how to divide my income
and keep some aside for savings and balance for spending”.
Father of III grade: “Once I was saying that the Sun moves from East to West and my daughter corrected me
that it’s the Earth that moves and not the Sun!”
Parent of VII grade: “Our bulbs at home were getting fused very often and my son suggested we put a circuit
breaker in the line to avoid this problem”.
