Lesson – Climate

Duration: 1 Hour

I. Objectives
1. Define Weather and Climate.
2. Explain how latitude affects climate.
II. Content Standard
The Learners demonstrate: understanding of factors that affect climate and the effects of changing climate
and how to adopt accordingly
III. Performance Standard
The Learners should be able to:
Participate in activities that reduced risk and lessen the harmful effects of climate change.
IV. Learning Competencies
V. Explain how different factors affects the climate of an area.
VI. A. Materials

new skills #1
So, lets proceed to our next topic.
At the end of this you will be able to:
1. Define weather and Climate
2. Explain How Latitude Affects
Climate.

C. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Activity 1. When the Sun’s Rays Strike

Name:________________________________________ Year & Section:_________________________

Teacher:______________________________________ Date:_________________________________

I. OBJECTIVE: a. Explain how latitude affects climate.

Study the illustration below.

D. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
II. QUESTIONS:
Q1. How much is the tilt of the earth’s axis?
Ans. The earth’s axis tilt 23.5°
Q2. Which part of the earth receives most of the sun’s rays?
Ans. The Equator receives most of the sun’s rays.
Q3. Why does the amount of heat receive by places far from the equator become less?
Ans. It is due to the tilting of the earth’s axis and the shape of the earth.
Q4. Why are the coldest places on earth found near the poles?
Ans. They receive less amount of heat.
Q5. Why are places with high temperature found at the equator?
Ans. Due to the tilting of the earth’s axis, places near the equator receive more heat making the air
temperature higher.
Q6. How does latitude affect climate?
Ans. When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.

III. CONCLUSION:
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.

E. Finding Practical applications of concepts and skills/ Evaluation

Given the World Map look for the following Countries and Identify their location on the map/globe and the
respective climate.
A.
Countries Location (° latitude) Climate
1. Philippines 15⁰ Tropical
2. Mongolia 46⁰ Temperate
3. Indonesia .78⁰ Tropical
4. Canada 60⁰ Temperate
5. Greenland 75⁰ Polar
B. Explain how Latitude affects climate?
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.
