Last meeting we discussed
about what class?
Yes Hanna? Ma’am last meeting we
discussed about heat and heat
transfer by conduction.
Very good!
So what did you learned
about heat?
Yes Emman? I learned that heat is the
transfer of thermal energy
from one medium to another
or from on energy source to a
medium.
Excellent!
What about heat transfer
by conduction, what did
you learned?
Yes Paulo? Ma’am I learned that heat
transfer by conduction is the
transfer of heat via direct
contact.
Very good!
Any clarification about our
last topic? None Ma’am!
7 Engage Before we start our Contai

Leonard I want you to put

a food colour in the small
bottle and after that kindly
close the lid tightly.

And after that put the

small bottle in the
container of cold water. (Leonard follow the
procedure)
Class observe what happen
to the food colour, so you
can answer my questions
later. Understand? Yes Ma’am!

So class what did you

observed on this simple
activity?
Yes Angel? Ma’am I observed that the
two medium are different in
temperature, because the
container contains cold water
while the small bottle
contains hot water.
Very good observation!
What else?
Yes Jerome? Ma’am I observed that the
food colour coming out from
the straw.
Very good!
Class what else? What did
you observed on this
activity?
Yes Allan? Ma’am I observed that the
food colour that came from
warm water moved upward
and go to the cold water.
Excellent!
So what do you think the
reason why it is happen?
Yes Arthur? Ma’am I think because of their
different temperature that’s
why the food colour move
upward to the cold water
came from hot water.
Very well said Arthur!
That is the one reason of
this activity.
And also because hot
solution or hot water is
less dense that to the cold
water, therefore the
molecules of the solution
themselves move from one
place to another.
Understand Class? Yes Ma’am!

Presentation So now, based on the

of topic simple activity, what do
you think our topic for
today?
Yes Jerrame? Ma’am I think it is all about
transferring of heat.
Nice Jerrame.
But if the conduction occur
only in solid, so this heat
transfer that our topic for
today is occurs in liquid
and gas or air. So what do
you think what kind of
heat transfer is this?
Yes Allen? Ma’am I think our topic for
today is all about heat
transfer by convection.
Brilliant!
Heat transfer by
convection is our topic for
today.
Presentation Before we proceed, here is
of objectives our lesson objective.
Please read. Objectives:

Class how’s your activity? Ma’am its okay and it is also
fun.
Nice!
Group 1 will be the first

group 2 and last is the
group 3. (presentation of activity)
In the activity 1 what did
you observed in the 25
centavo coin after you put
it in the mouth of cold
bottle and grip it with your
warm hands?
Yes Daisy? Ma’am I observed that after
the warm hands grip the cold
bottle, the 25 centavo coin in
the mouth of cold bottle is
moved.
Very good observation!
So what do you think how
does the 25 centavo coin is
moved after you grip the
cold bottle with your warm
hands?
Yes Reymark? Ma’am I think because of their
different temperature,
because the bottle is cold and
the hands are warm.
Excellent!
What else?
Yes Shai? Ma’am I think because by
touching a cold bottle with
the warm hands, which the
conduction from the hands
will create hot air in the
bottle, so that the hot air
inside the bottle is rising and
pushing the 25 centavo coin,
that’s why the 25 centavo coin
is moved.
Brilliant answer!
That’s correct!

So any clarification about

activity 1? None Ma’am!

So let’s proceed what

happened to the activity 2.
Base in your activity, does
the food colouring stay at
the bottom of the glass?
Or does it mix with the
liquid above it?
Yes Euvelyn? Ma’am based on our activity I
observed that the food
colouring mix with the liquid
above it which is the cold
water.
Very Good!
What happens to the food
colouring after placing the
glass of cold water above
the glass of warm water?
Yes Jessica? Ma’am when the glass of cold
water placed on the top of the
glass of warm water, the
liquid with the food colouring
at the bottom rises to the top
or to the glass of cold water.
Excellent!
How heat transfer taking
place in the setup?
Yes Marlie? Ma’am heat transfer occur
when the two objects are
different in temperature,
because in the set up the food
colour placed in the warm
water so the food colour
going to the cold water.
So after a few minutes
does the both glasses are
in the same in color?
Yes Diether? Ma’am Yes, after a few
minutes the both glasses are
in the same color.
So what do you think is the
reason? Ma’am I think that the both
glasses are reached their
same temperature.
Brilliant!
20 Elaborate So based the activity what
mins. is convection?
Yes Jude? Ma’am convection is the form
of a heat transfer which deals
the movement of thermal
energy of liquid or gas from
one place to another.
Excellent answer!
So how heat transfer by
convection occur?
Yes Ana? Ma’am heat transfer by
convection occurs when
warmer areas of gas or liquid
rise or going to the cooler
areas in the gas or liquid.
Came from high temperature
going to the lower
temperature.
Very well said!
And where the heat
transfer convection can
occur?
Yes Jet? Ma’am heat transfer by
convection occurs in the liquid
and gas or air.
Very good Jet!
So any clarification
regarding that? None Ma’am!
Class, who can give me
some importance of or
application of heat transfer
by convection?
Yes Arnold? Ma’am when we heated
water in an electric kettle.
So Arnold what happen
when we heated water in
an electric kettle? Ma’am because the heating
coil of an electric kettle is
placed at the bottom, so that
the convection current can
occur.
Excellent answer Arnold!
Who have any idea class?
Yes Diether? Ma’am I think the natural
convection currents in sea
breeze and land breeze.
Very good Diether!

About that land breeze

and sea breeze you can be
will understand deeper
when you study about
weather and climate in
earth science.
Understand class? Yes Ma’am!
So do you understand our
topic for today? Yes Ma’am!

Class look under your arm

chair, there is a half shape
of heart. If you find that
shape all you have to do is
to look for its other half.
If you find your partner
both of you will generalize
our lesson for today. Ma’am we discussed about
heat transfer by convection

that the convection is form of

heat transfer that deals the
movement of thermal energy
of liquid or gas from one place
to another.
Very good.
And also we discussed the
some importance and
application of heat transfer by
convection and we conduct an
activity about heat transfer by
convection.
Very good class.
I think you already
understand our lesson for
today.
