“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning “-Mr.Rogers. Toys help a
preschooler expand their mind with imagination, social development, and with their creativity.
in the article Nurturing creativity, it stated “Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than
knowledge." Imagination is the door to possibilities. It is where creativity, ingenuity, and thinking
about the world. During imaginative play, children manipulate materials, express themselves
verbally and non-verbally, plan (intentionally or unintentionally), act, interact, react, and try
exploring. This imagination they have helps them develop social, emotional, and intellectual
skills.
Another reasons as to why toys help preschoolers is that it helps them with their social
development. In the article play and social skills it stated “free play allows children to practice
decision-making skills, learn to work in groups, share, resolve conflicts and advocate for
themselves. It also allows them to discover what they enjoy at their own pace.
Free play “is critical for becoming socially adept, coping with stress and building
cognitive skills such as problem solving” I want to add how my toy leads back to creating these
skills. In the article Life Lessons kids learn it stated that “ doll house play encourages
imagination, life skills, fine motor skills, problem solving classification skills and organization
skills.” This shows that by them pretending to be the parent or interacting with a pretend sibling
can help developing empathy. Negotiating who will be the mother and who will be the daughter

“What's important in any creative act is the process of self-expression. Creative experiences can
help children express and cope with their feelings. ... Creativity also fosters mental growth in
children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, and new ways of thinking and
problem-solving.” This shows me why creativity is important. Creativity is involved in almost
any toy you see because not every preschooler approaches or sees things the same way. So
creativity is everywhere in preschool toys. With my doll house they use their creativity to make
their doll house world their own little world. In the text it stated “Dramatic doll play is the perfect
way for young boys and girls to work out whatever they are dealing with in their lives via pretend
play. Dolls are used to try on all of the activities and roles that children see going on around
them. Dolls are a pretend play toy that is very helpful for children dealing with stress, trauma
and/or loss.”
