As I was reading this article, I could just imagine the processes a young teacher goes through to

earn their degree and certification. I thought about how all the hard work in getting through classes may

not be enough for a teacher. There is so much more that a teacher must know to be successful in the

classroom. Much of that knowledge comes from experiences and understanding of the classroom. I

decided to write a story based on this.

Once upon a time there was a girl name Bella who was nine years old. Bella had a

dream of becoming a teacher. She wanted nothing more than to touch the hearts of

children and help them learn. Bella worked really hard through her own education so her

dream could become a reality. She made sure she worked very hard to earn good grades so

that she would be able to attend college. The day finally came that Bella was able to

graduate from High School. The next logical step would be to attend college.

Throughout all of her hard work, Bella hadn’t put much thought as to where she

would go for college. She knew she had to pull good grades to attend college, but didn’t put

thought into what college would support her dream of becoming a teacher. She knew that

she didn’t to have a degree in order to become a teacher. Which school would offer that

degree?

Bella decided on a college hoping it would benefit her dream of becoming a teacher.

She entered the teacher education program and the work began. It was so much work but

she knew it would pay off and bring her the satisfaction of helping children learn and grow.

As Bella began the school work, she soon began to realize that there was so much

more to teaching than she had ever anticipated. She learned that the skills that were

required to become a teacher were deeper than the textbooks she possessed. There was

something that she would need to learn that would not be offered in any book she read.

Curriculum is a key component in teaching. Teaching the same curriculum across the

broad spectrum of education is important for students to learn and develop. While

curriculum is important to learn and to know and be able to teach, there was more to

teaching than the textbooks and curriculum.

Bella’s goal was to learn what was required to become an excellent teacher.

Something that would be more valuable as a teacher than anything else. That skill that she

needed to possess was the ability to truly know her students. As a young girl, her dream

focused on teaching and educating, but she now realized that her students were going to

also vary across the spectrum.

Some students would come from privileged backgrounds. Others would be in

poverty. Bella would work with students from all kinds of ethnicities and have parents of

various backgrounds. Those students would practice different religions and have different

intelligences.

Bella realized that color-blindness would not work in the classroom. She knew she

needed to recognize others for their differences. She also knew she needed to teach her

students without bias. Bella understood that her college experience had been a right not

afforded by others. It was understood that she would use others experiences in life as a

teaching experience for others. Finally, Bella decided that she was going to look for the best

in each of their students and allow them to demonstrate their own abilities.

As Bella completed her own education and ventured on to her classroom where she

had students from all walks of life, her biggest life lesson was understood. Each student that

walked through Bella’s classroom door was unique and different in their own way. Bella

embraced those differences and became a highly respected and wonderful teacher because

she learned to accept everybody. That is what made her excel as a teacher.
