Farming these days creates a large amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere
which leads to a serious condition of global warming. Nowadays, technologies have played
an important role in the development of the agricultural industry. Many useful tools related to
farming such as tractors, farm machinery, and high-tech fishing equipment increase in global
food production. Unfortunately, these useful technology tools create so much problem in
releasing CO2 into the air.
Everyday people keep on consuming meat and not knowing that It puts the greatest
impact on climate change. Due to the demand of people nowadays, the number of Intensive
animal farming starts to grow up very fast, also the number of methane releasing to the
atmosphere. Emissions of the greenhouse gas methane from livestock are larger than
previously thought, posing an additional challenge in the fight to curb global warming,
scientists have said. As growing livestock feed requires a large amount of fossil fuels. A study
from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that producing one calorie animal protein
requires more than ten times more fossil fuel to be used as a calorie of plant protein. Which
means that carbon dioxide emissions are ten times as well.
In conclusion, climate change is caused by human activities rather than natural
processes. Industrial and agricultural activities are mainly responsible for the production of
greenhouse gases that promote global warming and other impacts.

Things you’ve learned

13/5/19

- A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs the radiant energy. Greenhouse gases cause the greenhouse effect.
The primary greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide
and fluorinated gas.

The advantages of greenhouse gases

- One of the reasons why our planet is able to sustain life is because of the presence of greenhouse
gases and their effect on earth’s atmosphere. Without greenhouse gases, the average temperature of Earth's surface
would be too cold and too hot that the organism can’t survive in these extreme temperature condition

-Solar powered water heaters use the greenhouse effect to heat water. This contributes to energy saving
and can save up to 20-30 percent of the domestic energy bill.

-Greenhouse effect can also maintain the water level of the earth’s surface. It prevents the melting of ice
and restricts the polar caps to the polar regions only.

The disadvantages of greenhouse gases

-For ages, there was a delicate balance between how much energy is absorbed by greenhouse gases and
redirected to the earth and how much was radiated back to the space. With the increased burning of fossil fuels, the
percentage of greenhouse gases has increased. This means that more solar energy is directed into earth than what is
being radiated into space. This heats up the earth’s surface leading to what is known as global warming.

-Hurricanes have become common in recent years due to the greenhouse effect.

- The greenhouse effect is a process that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the UV radiation.

14/5/19

The causes of releasing greenhouse gases and toxic gases by human actions
Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

- Transportation generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions due to the use of fossil fuels
from our cars, trucks, ships, trains, and planes.

-Electricity production generates the second largest share of greenhouse gas emissions which came
from burning fossil fuels, mostly coal and natural gas.

-Industry – The emission of greenhouse gases from most industries comes from burning fossil fuels into
energy, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from certain chemical reactions necessary to produce products from
raw materials.

-Commercial and Residential - Greenhouse gas emissions from businesses and homes are mostly
caused by fossil fuels that burn for heating, using certain products that have greenhouse gases and waste
management.

-Agriculture - Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture come from livestock such as cattle, soil for
agriculture and rice production.

-Land Use and Forestry - The soil area can act as a sink (absorb CO2 from the atmosphere) or the source
of greenhouse gas emissions.

-Deforestation - The old forest that absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in the wood, leaves and
soil. The carbon will be released when people clear the forest area and destroy the forest. Large scale development
has resulted in cutting down of trees and forests which has forced people to look or alternate places for living. When
the wood is burnt, the stored carbon is converted back into carbon dioxide.

-The use of CFCs - Sunlight breaks down the chlorine released by CFC. Chlorine destroys ozone by
capturing oxygen. Eliminate the existing oxygen molecules that are used to generate ozone. UV rays that reach the
earth's surface. The amount of CFCs has been increasing since the people use the aerosol-spray.

-Increase in population: In recent decades, the population has increased considerably. Now, this
results in increased demand for food, fabric, and accommodation. The new production hub has built cities
and towns that emit some harmful gases into the atmosphere, which helps increase the greenhouse effect

The causes of greenhouse gases and toxic gases by nature events

Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

- Nature events might release or generates some toxic gases and greenhouse gases but they’re not
considered as the impacts that put a great effect on releasing greenhouse gases and toxic gases by nature
events.

-Water vapour - plays an important role in global warming and the greenhouse effect. Water vapour in the
form of clouds makes the world warm up, causing the greenhouse to intensify. This will increase the evaporation
rate and the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere which will affect the greenhouse effect.

- volcanoes - release toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2).

Natural things that affect climate in the long run :

• Changes in solar output

• Changes in the earth's orbital path

• Changes in land and ocean distribution ( the rising of sea levels)

• Changes in the reflectivity of the earth's surface

• Changes in atmospheric concentrations of trace gases (especially CO2 and CH4)

• Changes of a catastrophic nature (such as meteor impacts or extended volcanic eruptions)

15/5/19

The effects of greenhouse effects

- More drought and more flooding- As the greenhouse effect caused by greenhouse gases trap heat
causing the Earth to get warmer. When the weather gets warmer, evaporation from both land and sea increases. This can
cause drought in areas of the world where the increased evaporation is not compensated for by more precipitation.

-Less ice and snow - Worldwide, glaciers are shrinking rapidly at present. Ice appears to be melting faster than
previously estimated. In areas that are dependent on meltwater from mountain areas, this can cause drought and lack of
domestic water supply.

-More extreme weather incidents - The warmer climate will probably cause more heatwaves, more
violent rainfall and also an increase in the number and/or severity of storms. Leads to natural disasters
Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

-Rising sea level - As water warms, it expands. This expansion has been the major cause of sea-level
rise, with a smaller component from land-based glaciers and ice sheets.

-Migration of species - Many animal species will be forced to migrate in order to survive the changes in
the main climatic patterns altered by the progressive increase in temperatures.

21/5/19

Ways to reduce greenhouse gases and toxic gases emissions

- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

help to reduce waste you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

- Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning

reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.

- Drive Less and Drive Smart

Less driving means fewer emissions. It keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

- Buy Energy-Efficient Products

Use Less Hot Water

- Use the "Off" Switch

Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much
light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, stereo and computer when you're not using them.
It’s also a good idea to turn off the water when you’re not using it. While brushing your teeth, shampooing the
dog or washing your car, turn off the water until you actually need it for rinsing.

- Plant a Tree
If you have the means to plant a tree, start digging. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. A single
tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

- Encourage Others to Conserve

Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbours and co-workers, and
Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

take opportunities to encourage public officials to establish programs and policies that are good for the
environment.

- Stop using the aerosol sprays

To help reduce the CFCs gases emissions

22/5/19

- The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) drew international attention to climate change in
its 1990 Assessment Report, where it reported that increases in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were
causing substantial warming of the Earth’s surface beyond what would naturally occur. The IPCC’s “Fourth
Assessment Report: Climate Change,” released in 2007, stated unequivocally that human activities are
causing an increase in GHG concentrations: “The global increases in carbon dioxide concentration are due
primarily to fossil fuel use and land use change, while those of methane and nitrous oxide are primarily due
to agriculture.” U.S. government reports concur with this assessment.

- The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, or Assembly Bill (AB) 32, is a California State Law that
fights global warming by establishing a comprehensive program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from all
sources throughout the state.

23/5/19

The factors of greenhouse gases and toxic gases that put the great impacts on nutrient cycle

- Starting from human activities, they release a large amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
These activities include the use of cars for transportation, the fuels burning for the use of electricity production,
Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

agriculture, and deforestation. The harmful gases released from these activities go through the nutrient cycle. The
greenhouses gases enter the atmospheric cycle by go up straight to the stratosphere layer then traped the UV
radiation inside the Earth surface. The CFCs which considered as a type of greenhouse gases destroy the ozone
layer by chlorine binds with the oxygen atom of the ozone layer which resulting a hole in the ozone layer causing less
protection layer to merge the UV radiation out into space. Also, the toxic gases bind with the water molecules in the
sky forming the acidic clouds. At the same time, the greenhouse gases also enter the water cycle by the toxic gases
bind with the water molecules in the sky forming the acidic clouds. So, when it comes to the process of precipitation,
It comes in the form of acidic rain. The rain goes all the way into the water sources like oceans, lakes, and ponds.
With this, the water was contaminated caused by this acidic rain as the marine animals absorb these substances
causing them to corrodes and start dying. Then It comes to the part of the geological cycle, the contaminated water
will then be being washed or runoff into the soil causing the soil to be denatured.

- Cause – human 1, farming1, nature1

- Effect- impacts on environment runoff-water, air-acid rain, soil - soil denaturation- lack of
nutrient, leads to climate change, the more greenhouse gases, the more uv radiation is
being trapped inside the earth, leads to global warming, leads to ozone depletion, leads to
health problem like skin cancer. Human action- advantages and disadvantages
- According to nutrient cycle – It effect almost every type of nutrient cycle

Random lists

-Industry and factory release a huge amount of toxic gases.

-Human inventions like machinery tools and cars release CO2 into the atmosphere

- Methane emissions are caused by livestock raising and other agricultural practices and from the
decomposition of organic waste in municipal solid waste landfills which causing decadent on the
Thannalin Patthanapan(Benz)1008

nutrient cycle.
- The runoff of the chemical waste products from animals like cows pollutes the water.
- Water pollution caused by product wastes from animals creates many problems to the Earth both on land
and water like fish dying from accumulates chemical wastes into their body causing malfunction to their
organs, polluted water evaporates into the atmosphere which then forming clouds in the sky producing acid
rain back on to the land again.
