Introduction
Agriculture is central to economic growth and
development. It is a major source of sustenance for vast
majority of people in developing countries. It provides vital
raw materials for national or international industry.
Agriculture has also played a key role in the development of
human civilization.
Agriculture is a basic industry and the backbone of economy
of the developing countries. It is a chief support to wipe out
hunger and malnutrition. Agricultural production needs to
be enhanced to meet the requirements of ever growing
population.
Cont..
 The invention of agriculture is one among the great revolutions of
human history.

 The adoption of agriculture and also the domestication of plants

and animals reduced the nomadic lifestyles among teams of
individuals.
 Scientometrics is the field of study which concerns itself with
measuring and analyzing scientific literature. Scientometrics is a
sub-field of bibliometrics. Major research issues include the
measurement of the impact of research papers and academic
journals, the understanding of scientific citations.
Review of Literature
• The review of literature is an important component of
any research study.
• It also provides the researcher a bird’s eye view of the
research done so far in that area. Review of literature
suggests new avenues of approach to the solution of a
chosen problem.
• to review the available literature in order to know the
areas that have invited the attention of the researcher
so far, and the areas that seek the attention of the
future researchers.
Objectives
 To study the growth of agriculture research
publications during 1989 – 2018 as per the Web of
Science database

 To study the share of Indian contribution within the

field of Agricultural research.

 To study the domain-wise distribution of

publications and citations, activity ..
index, domain-wise mean impact factor.
Cont..
 To study the international collaboration, highly
productive institutions, highly preferred
journals and highly cited publications.
 Identification of highly productive institutions,
their activity of research as reflected by Activity
Index (AI) and the impact of their research
output.
 Identification of prolific authors and highly cited
papers.

Cont..
 The present study is based on India’s Agriculture research output
indexed in Web of Science (WoS) which is an online subscription-
based scientific citation indexing service maintained by Claravite
analytics formerly Thomson Returns that provides a
comprehensive citation search.
 WoS access to multiple databases that reference cross-
disciplinary analysis, that permits for in-depth exploration of
specialized sub-fields at intervals an instructional or branch of
knowledge. The cumulative publications, citations, subject areas,
institutional collaborations, international collaboration and H –
Index for 30 years (1989 – 2018) has been taken.
Cont..
This study will also identify the factors underlying its
growth, stagnation and decline. It also examines India’s
position vis-a vis select development and development
nations, in terms of its research output, citation visibility.
Limitations of the Study
 The source of data for my research is Web of
Science citation database and it has undertaken
for a period of 30 years, i.e.1989 – 2018.

 The study is to focus on the Indian contribution and

the data is studied in Agriculture research during
the period from 1989 – 2018.
Expected Benefits
This study will helps to Scientists, Researchers and Librarians.

This study is to evaluate the research performance of major

agriculture research of the country and to compare their
performance among themselves and similar institutes of other
countries and also analyses the growth of literature published by the
researchers in India for 1989 – 2018 as reflected in Web of Science
(WoS) database.

This study gives an idea about which countries are the most active
in terms of scientific publications in agriculture and the collaboration
among authors, institutions and countries.
Cont..
 This study presented a summary of scientometric research in the
agriculture area, using publication of literature, an overview of
scientometric efforts have been presented to trace the emergence
of this new technological area. It is important to evaluate the
research performance of major agriculture research of the country
and to compare their performance among themselves and similar
institutes of other countries.
 Using publication of literature, an overview of scientometric efforts
have been presented to trace the emergence of this new
technological area.
