Voice of the people
Response to Mr. Lollar regarding Trump
I suppose people like Lee Roy Lollar are pleased
with a President who continually makes up statistics
and stories to pump up his ego. I suppose Mr. Lollar
enjoys it when Trump acts like a schoolyard bully. I for
one would expect our President to ACT presidential
and set an example for the next generation, but this is
not what is happening. He has emboldened the white
supremacists, xenophobes and misogynists. He has
also shown himself to be no friend of the LGBTQ com-
munity. As far as tariffs go, we will be paying the price
for these — not the countries making the products.
The problem is the vast majority of items imported
are no longer made in this country and if they were
they would be 10x more expensive. Will the American
people pay these prices? I think not, so they will still
be imported, and we will pay more for them. What
has this accomplished? Nothing. Also, as far as our
military and policy, we are cozying up to evil heads of
state who want nothing better than to see our country
divided and weaker. Trump has shown pure ignorance
on the world stage. Also, I recall the comments of a
truly great president, Theodore Roosevelt, who said,
“Speak softly and carry a big stick.”

Powell hints
Fed will cut
rates if needed
over trade wars
By MARTIN CRUTSINGER
AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON —
Chairman Jerome Powell
said Tuesday that the Fed-
eral Reserve is prepared
to respond if it decides the
Trump administration’s
trade conflicts are threat-
ening the U.S. economy.
Investors read his remarks
as a signal that the Fed will
likely cut interest rates lat-
er this year.
Powell’s remarks
helped drive up stock pric-
es, with the Dow Jones
Industrial Average ending
the day up more than 500
points, or 2 percent.
Speaking at a Fed con-
ference in Chicago, Powell
said, “We are closely mon-
itoring the implications of
these developments for
the U.S. economic outlook
and, as always, we will act
as appropriate to sustain
the expansion.”
Powell didn’t explicitly
say what the Fed would
do. But expectations are
rising that the Fed will cut
rates at least once and pos-
sibly two or more times be-
fore year’s end, in part be-
cause of the consequences
of the trade war.

different Yeti brand items before walking
out the front door, according to a CPD press

Yeti is a national company based in Aus-

coolers and other outdoor products.
“This group knew what they were af-

Chief Fred Shelton said in the press release.
“They took high-end coolers and bags that
were worth up to $300 each. We believe
