Chapter 8

Monday Morning Leadership

Congratulations! You have finished this non-fiction text, and I hope you have learned some
valuable lessons to help you achieve success in the world. Please respond thoughtfully to the
following questions. Make sure you reference the text when appropriate.

1. Explain what Jeff means by when he says “a forceful enemy to your potential is your
comfort zone.”
A comfort zone doesn’t drive to learn it makes the person want to stay where they are to avoid
any changes. It is described as forceful because people don't choose to get stuck in a comfort
zone.
2. Describe the “three room” within the learning zone.
1. The reading room is where you learn the raw information
about leadership.
2. The listening room is where you learn about leadership by
interacting with people.
3. The giving room where you better yourself as a person by
giving back.
3. Take each room as your inspiration for learning. What will you do (or can you do) today
to begin to better yourself.
Reading Room: read Monday Morning Leadership
Listening Room: listen to others advice when working on a group project
Giving Room: donate to charity
4. Explain the three principal reasons that cause most executive to fail. Think of an example
outside of the text to support your answers.
Believing you are better than everyone else because of your “title.” Putting yourself
above the ones who work for you (which should be the other way around...see bucket
filling). Not caring when your employees need a change or when you work them too hard
or basically treating them wrong in general.
5. Nothing will change in your life unless you set specific goals for improvement that are
“specific, measurable, and obtainable.” What does Tony mean by this?
If it isn’t specific then you may get lost oon what exactly is the goal you are trying to
achieve. If it isn’t measurable then how do you know you have completed it. If it isn't
obtainable then it isn't a goal it is a dream.
6. What are four reasons people fail to set goals?
1. Laziness
2. They don’t believe their goal is like a serious goal
3. Lack of motivation
4. They dont wan5t to get serious about their goal
7. Why “fail faster and more often” unusual advice?
You cannot go through life without failing at least once so it is better to not live in fear of
failure but instead learn from the times that you do fail.
8. Examine the Leadership Commitments on page 87. Based on what you have learned in this
text, write three leadership commitments that you can begin using today.
1. I will respect everyone's views and opinions.
2. No one controls me but me
3. I will contribute my ideas
9. What does Jeff do and say to thank Tony?
Jeff gives Tony a gift to show how much he did for him. Jeff also told Tony how
invaluable his lessons were.
10. Give your some thought-provoking insights that you learned from reading this book. Explain
your answers.
A manager can, with a good enough team, get paid more to do less than the rest. What I
mean is that a manager can have a team so good that they really don't have to do much
in the supervision department and considering a manager can get only 10% of the work
done and still get by ralisticall this seems unfair.
