Installation and uninstallation issues
--------------------------------------
Installation package issues
---------------------------
The following are known issues surrounding the installation packages:
- The pre-configured package Savcdnrb.exe requires a reboot on Windows Me.
- If you create a Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client or
server package that does not include the product help files or other
files associated with product features, error messages may display
on the user's workstation. Symantec strongly recommends including
the help files in packages to aid users and to avoid these types
of problems. If you choose not to include files, inform your users
of the expected product behavior related to these missing files.
- You can roll out Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition clients
and servers from the Symantec System Center. To roll out a custom
package from the Symantec System Center, the package must be named
Setup.exe and copied to the Rollout\Avserver\server\winnt (for
server rollouts), or Rollout\Avserver\server\Avserver\clients\win32
(for client rollouts).
- If you want to install a package with different features than a
currently installed package, you need to uninstall the previously
installed package first.
- The /f switch only replaces files that are missing and does not
change a custom install to a full install regardless of the
contents of the package that is being installed.
The /f switch only restores the installed image to its original
state. New components are not added to the system. For example, if
the original install contained no decomposer engines, you cannot
add decomposer engines by running a new package containing them with
/f.
- If you want to use a network share with Symantec Packager, you need
to log on to the share before starting Symantec Packager. Symantec
Packager does not prompt for login credentials.
- There may be a problem with the way Symantec Packager parses some
command line parameters. If you are having trouble issuing a command
line command, try wrapping the command in quotes.

MSI Advertised installation unsupported

---------------------------------------
Microsoft Installer's advertise function is unsupported.

Symantec System Center unsupported on a Terminal Server

-------------------------------------------------------
Symantec System Center is not supported when installed directly to a
Terminal Server.

Quarantine Console
------------------
The following items are related to the Quarantine Console:
- When installing Quarantine Console to a Windows NT 4.0 platform,
ensure that Microsoft Management Console 1.2(MMC) is preinstalled.
- When installing the Central Quarantine Console, Internet Explorer
5.5 Service Pack 2 is required to complete the installation.
- If you do not have Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 or greater
installed, you can download the latest version from:
http://www.microsoft.com.
- Install and uninstall rollback functionality is unsupported for
Quarantine Console.

Quarantine Server
-----------------
If you install Quarantine Server to a hard disk with insufficient hard
disk space, you will receive a "disk full" message. You will need to \
cancel the installation, clear up some disk space, and then start the
installation again.

Symantec System Center requires Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2

---------------------------------------------------------
Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 is required to install the Symantec System
Center. If you do not have Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or greater
installed, you can download the most recent version from:
http://www.microsoft.com.

Install the legacy Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition server product

to NetWare 4.x servers
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition supports Netware 5.x and 6.x only.
Install the legacy antivirus server (Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition
7.61) to NetWare 4.x servers. If you attempt to install Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition server to a NetWare 4.x server, the
software will not function.

Uninstall Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client

-----------------------------------------------------
An uninstall attempt of a managed client may not accept the user
defined password. Using the default "symantec" (case sensitive)
password will allow the uninstall to progress.
Before uninstalling the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client,
ensure that its user interface is closed. Attempting to uninstall with
the main user interface running may produce inconsistent results.

NTRemote
--------
When pushing an Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client install to
computers running either Windows NT 4 or Windows 2000, ensure that the
target computer is logged on to the network.

Client login installations configured in the Symantec System Center

may fail on computers running Windows 98
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Client login installations configured in the Symantec System Center may
fail on computers running Windows 98. The symptom of a failed installation
is an "endless loop" in which the target computer restarts after
installation, and then starts the installation again. To fix this
problem:
1. From the Packager folder on the CD, copy the required version of the
Microsoft Installer, instmsia.exe, to the target Windows 98 computer.
2. From the Packages folder on the CD, copy savcenrb.exe to the
\clt-inst\Win32 folder on the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
server.
3. In the folder where you copied savcenrb.exe, rename setup.exe to
setup.old.
4. Rename savcenrb.exe to setup.exe.

Protection for Macintosh and OS/2 computers

-------------------------------------------
The Macintosh client is located on the Macintosh partition on the
Symantec AntiVirus Legacy Solutions CD. The Macintosh client is version
7.0.2 for OS 9 and version 8.0 for OS X.
The OS/2 client is located in the NAVOS2 folder on the Symantec
AntiVirus Legacy Solutions CD. The OS/2 client version is 5.03.69A.

--------------------------------------------------------
Migration Issues
--------------------------------------------------------
Unmanaged to managed client migration is unsupported
----------------------------------------------------
The migration of a unmanaged Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
client to a managed client is not supported. To resolve this issue,
when a managed client is installed over an unmanaged client, you can
copy a Grc.dat that specifies that the client be managed by a
specific parent server in the appropriate directory.

---------
Updates
---------
The LiveUpdate Administration Utility product line list must be updated
before retrieving updates
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The LiveUpdate Administration Utility product line list must be updated
before you can use it to download updates. When the update is complete,
new products appear in the Symantec Product line list in the LiveUpdate
Administration Utility.
To update the product line list LiveUpdate Administration Utility:
1. Click Start > Programs > LiveUpdate Administration Utility >
LiveUpdate Administration Utility.
2. Make at least one product selection in the Symantec Product Line
list.
3. Click Retrieve.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Manually updating virus definitions on primary servers

------------------------------------------------------
In this release, there is a change in the method for manually updating
virus definitions files on primary servers. If you currently update by
copying .vdb files to primary servers, you should now copy .xdb file
instead. Primary servers will push .xdb files to the secondary servers
that they manage; secondary servers will automatically process the
.xdb file and update the clients that they manage.

--------------------------------------------------------
Deployment with 3rd Party Products
--------------------------------------------------------
IntelliMirror
-------------
Use a .Zap file to deploy the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
client using IntelliMirror. A sample .Zap file is located on the CD in
the \Tools\Sample folder.
Deploying packages with Microsoft SMS
------------------------------------------------------------
If you are deploying packages using Microsoft Systems Management Server
(SMS), you may need to disable the Show Status Icon On The Toolbar For
All System Activity feature on the clients in the Advertised Programs
Monitor.
In some situations, Setup.exe may need to update a shared file that is
in use by the Advertised Programs Monitor. If the file is in use, the
install will fail.

--------------------------------------------------------
Management-related issues
--------------------------------------------------------
Individual clients must be managed in a separate client group
-------------------------------------------------------------
In this release, you cannot manage individual clients unless they belong
to a client group. To manage an individual client, create a client
group, add the client to the group, and then manage the client from the
client group level.
Selecting a master primary server for LiveUpdate
------------------------------------------------
When designating a master primary server, choose a parent server that
has at least one client assigned to it. If a parent server without
clients is selected, virus definitions updates are not propagated from
that server.

What happens when you add a Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition server
to a legacy server group
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In general, computers running the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
server software should not be added to legacy server groups. If you
want to add a Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition server to a legacy
group make that server the primary server for the group in order to
avoid conflicts with LiveUpdate settings.

Virus definitions file rollbacks

--------------------------------
Before attempting to roll back virus definitions make sure that all the
computers running the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client and
server programs have been rebooted once after the initial install. If
this is not done, some clients may not rollback to the earlier
definitions.

Ghost decomposer engine scanning

--------------------------------
The Ghost decomposer engine can only be used to scan within Symantec
Ghost images. Infected files are detected but are not repaired.

Scanning the iFolder directory on Novell NetWare 6

--------------------------------------------------
For Novell NetWare 6, if you are using the iFolder option, do not
perform virus scans on the iFolder directory. To exclude the iFolder
directory from a virus scan using the Symantec System Center console,
do the following:
1. In the System Center Console, right-click the server that you want
to configure, then click All Tasks > Symantec AntiVirus >
Server Realtime Protection Options.
2. In the Client Realtime Protection Options dialog box, ensure that
Enable File System Realtime Protection is checked.
3. Ensure that Exclude selected files or folders is checked.
4. Click the Exclusions button.
5. In the Exclusions dialog box, click the Folders button.
6. In the Folder Exclusions dialog box, type the path of the folder
you are excluding.
The default path for the iFolder directory is: sys:\iFolder.
7. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.

Displaying clients in client groups in the Symantec System Center

console
------------------------------------------------------------------
For clients to appear in client groups in the Symantec System Center
console, you must select SSC Console options from the Tools menu, click
Client Filter, then click Show client machines when viewing groups.

Roamadmn.exe
------------
Roadadmn.exe sets up Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition servers for
roam access. You can only run Roadadmn.exe on systems where the
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition client or server, or Symantec
System Center is installed.

Folder exclusions are always processed as prescan exclusions

------------------------------------------------------------
When you exclude a folder, the files inside of it will not show up in
the count of files scanned.
