24 UNCOMMON
STYLE HACKS
Every Guy
Needs to Know
Life can be hard,
and time consuming. 
W hen you’re busy with school work, battling your boss,
hitting the gym and having a social life, it can be diffi-
cult to find the time to focus on looking your best. We get it!
But the good news is that sticking to your own style doesn’t
have to be hard work. There’s nothing more important than
being confident in the way you look and maintaining your
own individual sense of style.
Looking your best costs time and money, but you don’t have
to break the bank to look stylish no matter where you go. It
doesn’t matter what stage you’re at on your style journey,
here are my 24 uncommon style hacks that every guy needs
to know:

24 Uncommon Style Hacks Every Guy Needs to Know 2

1. Maintain a Fresh Haircut

N o one has the time or the money to get a

fresh haircut every week, so it is
important to learn to style and maintain your
hair so that it looks as fresh as possible
between cuts.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to
regularly shave the back of your neck. Enlist
the help of someone you live with (girlfriend,
siblings, parents) then remove the stray hairs
on your neck so that it looks nice and clean,
like you just got your hair cut. Don’t trust
anyone to help? You can also do this yourself
with the help of a small mirror. If your hair
grows quickly, you may find that you need to
do this every week. 

2. Get a Hobby

It might not seem like an obvious style

tip, but one of the most proactive things
you can do to make yourself more
attractive is get a hobby. If you have a
hobby then you will always have
something interesting to talk about when
you’re out on a date, and that will
instantly capture the attention of the
person you’re hoping to impress.
If you haven’t done anything then you
will have nothing to talk about, and you
might come across as boring. It doesn’t
matter what hobbies you choose: from
going to the gym to playing the guitar,
surfing to skydiving. Find one or two
hobbies, have some fun, and learn
something new. When you have
something new to talk about, you
instantly look more interesting, confident,
and therefore much more attractive. 

3. Consider Laser Hair Removal

If you’re a particularly hairy guy, and that causes you to suffer from ingrowing hairs on
your face, neck, or body, then you may want to consider laser hair removal.
Just two or three sessions will leave you with hair that is thinner, weaker, and so much
easier to shave. After six sessions, most of your unwanted hair will be completely
gone. This doesn’t mean that you can stop shaving your neck (or other part of your
body) completely, but it does mean you can switch this from a daily routine to
something you do just once a week. No more uncomfortable ingrowing hairs! 

4. Avoid Deep V Necks

T he deep V neck tee is a trend that was

revived by the crew of the Jersey Shore, but it
is a look that is best avoided if you want to look
classy. These chest and naval revealing tees look
attention grabbing for all the wrong reasons.
V necks can still have a place in your wardrobe
but be careful about which ones you buy: make
sure you’re not showing off your whole chest and
you will look so much better. If you do choose to
wear a V neck then think carefully about the
accessories you choose: a well placed chain or
necklace will break up your neckline and make it
look and feel much more interesting. 

5. Try to be Different

W hen you have a tight knit

group of friends its very
common for you to all begin
dressing similarly over time. But if
you want to stand out as stylish, you
should try to be different from your
friends.
Just because you like the clothes or
brands your friend is wearing
doesn’t mean you should wear them
too. Take a look at your closet next
time you’re dressing up and think
about what will suit you best, help
you express yourself, and make you
feel good. Stop blending in and
start standing out! 

6. In a Rush? Style Your Hair Whilst It’s Wet

If you don’t have the time to blow dry your hair, then why not experiment with a slicked
back look and style your hair whilst it’s wet? Simply towel dry your hair to remove as much
water as possible, then evenly spread some product throughout your hair to hold it.
Style your hair using a wide tooth comb to pull it back and your hair will maintain a shiny,
slick back look all day look. This is a simple hairstyle that can be completed in under a
minute, perfect if you’re in a rush. Why not compliment your hair with a leather jacket, to
emphasise its bad ass, rock star aesthetic? 

7. Practice Good Posture

H aving bad posture is a style mistake so many guys make! Being slouched over with a
rounded back and rolled shoulders will make your whole demeanour look weak and
sloppy. You will seem tired, lazy, and uninterested.
However, if you straighten your back and pull your shoulders back, holding your chin up
and high, then you will look confident, athletic and outgoing. Stand tall, invite people to
notice you. Carry yourself like someone who should be noticed. And you will reap the
rewards. 

8. Tailor Your Clothes

T ailor your clothes so they fit you properly. When your clothes fit you properly, it
doesn’t matter what brand they’re from or how much you paid for them. What
matters is that they enhance your body, and look like they were made just for you.
Every brand has different sizing, so don’t just assume you will be the same size from one
store to another. If in doubt, try a size down: it will usually fit you a little more snugly and
look much better. Once you’ve chosen the size that fits you best, find a tailor that you
trust and ask him to hook you up. Having your clothes tailored doesn’t have to be
expensive, and generally costs much less than people think it will. 

9. Set an Alarm For 20 Minutes Before Your Bedtime

S leep is essential for maintaining healthy looking skin, but many of us simply aren’t
getting the sleep we need. This will leave you with dark eye circles, and skin that is
dry and sallow.
If you set an alarm for 20 minutes before your bedtime this will help you to establish a
healthy sleep routine. You can clean your teeth, take out your contact lenses, and do
whatever it is that you have to do every night before you sleep. By doing this you are
much more likely to go to bed at your predetermined time and get the 7-8 hours sleep
that you need. Your skin will thank you! 

10. Avoid Oversized Swim trunks
Back in the day it was considered cool to
wear baggy swim trunks to the beach or
by the pool, but those days are long gone.
To look chic and on trend now, you swim
shorts should sit above the knee and show
off a little more of your legs. This is a
more flattering look that will make you
look slimmer and taller.
If you have a great physique that you want
to show off then a more tailored trunk is a
great direction to choose: don’t be afraid
to try a size smaller than you would
normally wear to see if this will give you a
more flattering fit. 

11. Wear Shoes that Stand Out

If you spend your days wearing casual outfits, like jeans and t shirts, then you should
elevate the overall style of your outfit by wearing shoes that stand out.
Get some shoes that will grab people’s attention and inject some flavour into your outfit.
That doesn’t mean you have to choose shoes that are crazy or excessively colourful, but
your shoes should show that you care about fashion and looking good. Choosing
Chelsea boots is a great way to up your shoes game and look great with skinny or slim
jeans. 

12. Use Accessories to Add Texture to Your Outfit

A ccessories are a great way to add extra dimensions to a plain outfit and make it look
more interesting. You can choose to add a beaded or leather bracelet to your look
or, if you want something a little bolder, look for an oversized watch instead. Necklaces
and chains can break up the neckline of a plain T-shirt, drawing the eye and holding
attention for all the right reasons.
Sunglasses are also a great example of an accessory that will elevate your outfit. They will
inject style, personality, and a little bit of interesting mystery to everything you wear. 

13. Don’t Go Overboard

A ccessories are a great way to upgrade your outfit,

but when it comes to accessories, less is more. Pick
smaller pieces that will accentuate your neck and wrist
without dominating them: the idea is that the
accessories you choose highlight your natural features
rather than taking over your whole outfit. When you’re
wearing a suit or a more formal look, limit yourself to jut
one or two accessories: don’t go overboard! 

14. Don’t Give Up on Your Hair
Our next tip is a motivational tip: Don’t give up on your hair! Remember that every guy
has different hair types. Your style will be completely unique to you, and no matter what
your natural texture or colour, you can still do a lot with it!
Experiment with different hair styles and treatments. For example, if you have curly hair
and you think it would look better straight, ask your stylist to relax it chemically, or give
you a Brazilian blow out to leave your hair extremely soft, shiny and smooth. You don’t
have to be stuck with the hair you were born with. Work with a stylist that you trust and
invest in your hair, until you have the perfect style to suit you. 

15. Roll the Sleeves of Your Tee

W earing a simple outfit of a plain tee

and your favourite jeans? You can
still give this simple outfit a fashion-
forward and stylish twist, simply by rolling
the sleeves of your tee. This will give
your outfit a quick upgrade if you feel it’s
a little too simple and will also give your
tee a more fitted look.
Rolling the sleeves of your t shirt will
make it look instantly cooler without
costing you a penny. It is also a great way
to show off gym arms and subtly draw
attention to the hard work you have been
putting in at the gym. 

16. Invest in High Quality Basics

T he basic pieces in your wardrobe are likely

to be the pieces that you wear the most:
your plain black or white tees, for example,
will probably form the basis of every casual
outfit you put together.
When you’re wearing these pieces so often it
makes sense to invest in something that is
soft and comfortable, something that fits you
well, and something that will last a long time.
Because the quality is so much better,
spending a little extra now will actually save
you money in the long run, as well as making
you look and feel much better. 

17. Don’t Wash Your Jeans

T his might sound a little gross, but you don’t actually have to wash your jeans. Unless
you sweat a lot or spill some food on them, there is no need to put premium denim
in the washing machine after every wash. Washing high quality jeans can damage the
material, so avoiding the laundry basket will make your denim last longer.
Of course, it’s inevitable that all jeans will ultimately have to be washed at some point.
But the longer you can leave it between washes, the better your denim will look. Experts
recommend leaving a gap of 6 months between washes, if you can. 

18. Mix and Match Your Wardrobe

Y ou won’t need to shop so often if you know

how to wear the same item in multiple
different ways: your favourite pieces in your
wardrobe should be versatile enough to match
with a wide range of different outfits.
When you’re shopping for next pieces, stop
and ask yourself if the item you’re looking at
will fit into your existing wardrobe. If you can’t
envisage wearing the piece in at least two
different combinations, and wearing it
alongside several other items that you already
own then it might not be the right new
garment for you. 

19. Learn to Layer

L ayering is essential for adding

texture and interest to your
outfit. If you can layer different
items to create a full look then
your outfit will immediately add
interest and style.
Accessories are a great layering
tool but, if the weather allows,
then layers such as jackets, shawl
neck cardigans and hoodies will
give you a great versatile outfit
that is sure to turn heads. Wearing
a hoodie under a jacket is a great
way to layer. It will lend you a
fashion-forward look without
seeming like you’ve tried too
hard. It’s a cool but casual look
that anyone can pull off. 

20. Never Underdress for a Date

If you’re going out for a date with your

boyfriend, girlfriend or partner then it’s
important that you’re on their level. If
would be an insult to your girl if she rocks
up wearing a smoking hot dress and you
turn up wearing casual khakis and a tee. If
your date is dressed up then it’s important
to try to match when they’re wearing: that
why you’re going to feel confident and
great about the way you look when you’re
standing side by side. 

21. Remove the Stitching from Your Jacket Vents

M any guys simply don’t know that when they buy a new suit jacket, they can’t just throw
it on and head out. That’s because when you buy a new jacket or suit jacket it will
probably come with the vents at the back stitched up.
The aim of this stitching is to help the jacket hold its shape when its on the hanger in the
store but, as soon as you purchase the jacket, you should take a pair of scissors, open the
vent, and snip off the thread holding it together. It will only take a second or two, but will
make a big difference to how great your jacket looks when you’re wearing it. 

22. Don’t Wear Sneakers with Formal Pants

If you’re a sneaker addict, then you may want to wear sneakers for every occasion. But
sneakers just don’t look good when paired with a suit or formal pants. Instead take the
opportunity to wear a pair of nice leather shoes every once in a while.
If you don’t want to wear brogues or formal shoes then opt for Chelsea boots, rather
than ruin the line of your suit or formal pants with a bulky sneaker. Don’t limit yourself,
and don’t be afraid to explore different styles when it comes to shoes. 

23. Don’t Get Too Comfortable

T here’s nothing wrong with feeling

comfortable and wearing casual clothes,
but that doesn’t mean you should dress like
a slob just because you’re feeling lazy. The
day that you can’t be bothered to dress up
is sure to be the day that hot girl you’re into
chooses to sit down next to you.
That doesn’t mean you have to wear a suit
and tie to go and get groceries, but if
you’re going to wear casualwear make sure
you look good in it. It’s OK to wear
sweatpants as long as you choose nice
sweatpants! 

24. Avoid Baggy Jeans

F inally, it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on

your clothes, if they don’t fit you properly they won’t
look good. Baggy jeans will make you look shorter and will
add extra pounds to your frame. Basically, baggy jeans will
kill your style; get them tailored and only ever wear jeans
that fit your properly.
When it comes to choosing jeans, the fit is much more
important than the brand. It only costs around $20 to have
your jeans modified to fit you perfectly: this is money well
spent, and should be considered an investment in ensuring
you look great! 
