My experience with art is mostly limited to my school years.

I had an art class all through

my elementary years. I really enjoyed taking the art classes because you got to be creative with

the projects and the teacher was really fun. I remember doing this really fun project where she

assigned us partners and we had to draw that person. I thought that was a lot of fun and I still

have the picture today. I also took a couple of art classes in middle school. I remember taking a

pottery class, which I really enjoyed. In high school I took another pottery class and a graphic

design class. This is most of the experience that I have with art.

I feel that art should be included in the elementary/middle school curriculum. It lets the

students show off their creative side and most students, especially elementary students enjoy it. It

lets the students be able to express themselves and it allows teachers to see a different side of the

students. One that they normally wouldn’t see if they were just having a conservation with the

student. Teachers can learn a lot about their students by just looking at their art. I feel that

teachers should incorporate art into their lessons because the students will be more engaged and

excited if they know they get to do a fun project. Art is something that teachers can use in their

curriculum to let students be creative and to teach students a deeper understanding of what art is.

My definition of art is to express emotion and show who you are as a person. Art can

express many forms of emotion from happy to sad and it can bring back memories for some

people. Art is way for people to show what they are feeling through their creativity. In the book

it talks about how “art is creative expression, and art making is the process of that expression”

(Donahue and Stuart, 2010, p. 20). Using creativity in art is how people show emotion to their

audience. I also believe that each person has their own unique artistic style and that can be

expressed through their artwork. You can learn so much about a person through their art. In the

book it also states that “creating art provides a forum to delve into ideas and material that might
not be readily expressed through verbal discourse alone, or whose meaning may be expanded

through artistic presentation” (Donahue and Stuart, 2010, p. 21). People who don’t like to

express their emotion through words can use art as a way to explain it. You can find a deeper

meaning in their artwork than what they could explained with words. Art is a creative way for

people to express themselves and I feel that it will continue to stay that way for many more

years.
