INTRODUCTION
Human Resource is most important asset of an organization. Training and Development is
considered to be the most important part of an organization. Due to growing competition in the
Electrical manufacturing sector it is essential for the JR Machinery and Controls to measure the
effectiveness of training given to employees to make them more competitive and more efficient
as compared to other electrical manufacturers. “A study on effectiveness of training and
development with special reference to JR MACHINERY AND CONTROLS. Bangalore” will be
helpful in analyzing the effectiveness of training and find out areas of further training to keep up
with the challenges of international business.

The total market size of electrical machinery in India is anticipated to reach US$ 100
billion by 2022 from US$ 24 billion in 2013. The electrical machinery sector consists of
generation, transmission and distribution of machinery. The Government of India has been de-
licensed the electrical machinery industry and has allowed 100 percent foreign direct
investment(FDI) in the sector. It had set up Electronics Sectors Skills Council Of India which
would focus on identifying critical manufacturing skills required for the electrical machinery
industry.

NEED FOR THE STUDY

This study can be used as a tool to develop training method for JR MACHINERY AND
CONTROLS.

The purpose of training is to achieve a change in behavior of those trained and to enable them to
do their better in order to achieve the objectives. Any training programme should try to bring
changes in:

 Knowledge : It helps a trainee to know facts, Policies, Procedures and rules pertaining to
his job
 Skill : It helps him to increase his technical and manual efficiency necessary to do the
job and
 Attitude : It moulds his behavior towards his co-workers and supervisors and creates a
sense of responsibility in the trainee.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
No systematic study has been conducted so far about the effectiveness of training in JR
MACHINERY AND CONTROLS till date. Therefore the present study is an attempt to examine
the effectiveness of training in JR MACHINERY AND CONTROLS. This study is carried out as
per the suggestion given by the organizational head.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

According to the Michel Armstrong, “Training is systematic development of the knowledge,


skills and attitudes required by an individual to perform adequately a given task or job”. (Source:
A Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice, Kogan Page, 8th Ed.,2001)

According to the Edwin B Flippo, “Training is the act of increasing knowledge and skills of an
employee for doing a particular job.” (Source: Personnel Management, McGraw Hill; 6th
Edition, 1984)

The term ‘training’ indicates the process involved in improving the aptitudes, skills and abilities
of the employees to perform specific jobs. Training helps in updating old talents and developing
new ones. ‘Successful candidates placed on the jobs need training to perform their duties

The principal objective of training is to make sure the availability of a skilled and willing
workforce to the organization. In addition to that, there are four other objectives: Individual,
Organizational, Functional, and Social.

• Individual Objectives – These objectives are helpful to employees in achieving their personal
goals, which in turn, enhances the individual contribution to the organization.

• Organizational Objectives – Organizational objectives assists the organization with its primary
objective by bringing individual effectiveness.

• Functional Objectives – Functional objectives are maintaining the department’s contribution at


a level suitable to the organization’s needs.

• Social Objectives – Social objectives ensures that the organization is ethically and socially
responsible to the needs and challenges of the society.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To study the various training methods followed by JR MACHINERY AND


CONTROLS.
 To assess the effectiveness of training at JR MACHINERY AND CONTROLS.
 To analyze whether employees are satisfied with various training programs implemented
by the organization.
 Identify whether employees need any further training.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Sample Design

Universe may be finite or infinite. The universe in this project is finite. The population involved
in this project is employees of JR MACHINERY AND CONTROLS.

Sample Size

This refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe to constitute a sample size. In
this research the sample size constitute 100 employees in the JR MACHINERY AND
CONTROLS, which is an electrical manufacturing organization.

Sampling Method

Probability sampling method is used in this research.

Sampling Technique

Simple random sampling technique is to be used in this project.

Research Design

This project is based on descriptive research design.


Sources of Data

Both primary and Secondary data shall be used to satisfy the objectives of the study.

Primary Data

This study is based on primary data to be collected through structured questionnaires and
personal interviews.

Secondary Data

The data regarding company profile and industry profile are collected from office records and
Internet.

Tools for Data Analysis

 For analysis and interpretation of primary data percentage analysis is to be used mainly
due to qualitative nature of data.
 Bar diagrams are to be used to represent them in pictorial form.
 Likert scale to be used to measure the responses of the sample group.
