I. OBJECTIVES

Analyze figurative speech (Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, Irony, Onomatopoeia, Assonance, and Alliteration)

II. CONTENT
Subject Matter: Analyzing figures of speech (Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, Irony, Onomatopoeia, Assonance,
and Alliteration)

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Motivation
(The teacher will ask the students if they have already tried writing a diary entry, and will present a sample diary entry
that contains figurative speech.)

B. Developmental Activities
1.) ACTIVITY
The class will listen to the sample diary entry
2.) ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask several questions to the students about the diary entry they listened to, and will be
discussed further by the whole class.
3.) ABSTRACTION
a.)The teacher will let the students to see the different figurative speech in the entry and will discuss it
one by one in detail.
b.) The teacher will present the different figures of speech and give examples
4.) APPLICATION
The teacher will instruct the learners to use different figures of speech to describe things around them (it
may be at home or at the school).

C. GENERALIZATION
The teacher will try to let the pupils reiterate the important concepts about figures of speech.
(What is a Simile? Metaphor? Personification? Hyperbole? Irony? Onomatopoeia? Assonance? and
Alliteration?)

D. EVALUATING LEARNING
1. Formative Assessment:
The teacher will provide a worksheet that has some sentences that contain different figures of speech, and they will identify
what figure of speech is present in the following sentences.
1. She is as lovely as a rose
2. That firecracker blasted the whole universe.

2. Assignment/ additional activity for remediation:


The teacher will provide additional learning activities that will let learners to grasp more thoroughly the concept of
figures of speech, especially for those who got 74% and below in a formative assessment.
