CONTENT A. 21st Century literature from the region where the school is based in
relation to the literature of other regions in various genres and forms in
consideration of:
1. various dimensions of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial to
contemporary
CONTENT STANDARD The learner will be able to understand and appreciate the elements and
contexts of 21st century Philippine literature from the regions.
PERFORMANCE The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21st
STANDARD Century Philippine literature from the regions through:
1. a written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of
form and theme, with a description of its context derived from research; and
2. an adaptation of a text into other creative forms using multimedia.
LESSON OUTLINE
1. INTRODUCTION : Prayer, Routine Activities and Articulating Learning Objectives
2. MOTIVATION : The students will play Picture Perfect or commonly known as 4 Pics

3. INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY : Preparation of Pre-Assigned Concept per group and then proceed to

4. PRACTICE : Compose a song using a literary device
5. ENRICHMENT : The students will create a graphic organizer that identifies 21st century
literature and the themes and techniques used
6. EVALUATION : Justify and compare the assessment they made in the graphic organizer

Picture Perfect/4 Pics One Word
a. Look at the picture carefully, then identify the connection of the set of
pictures.
b. Once you decode the title of the movie, write your answer in the illustration
board.
c. Wait for the teacher’s signal to raise the board.
Processing Questions:
1. The students’ response will now lead to the deeper understanding of themes
and use of literary devices. The teacher will let the students collaborate with
their group mates.
2. During the previous meeting (orientation), students were given literary
techniques and themes that they should research about. The techniques are
as follows: Simile, Oxymoron, Metaphor and Personification. The themes
provided are as follows: Romance, Dramatic, Thriller and Fantasy.
3. Using the group assignment given, the teacher will give a text to each group
then let them extract the literary devices used in the passage.
Group 1 – Pliant Like a Bamboo – Simile
Group 2 – Young Goodman Brown – Oxymoron
Group 3 – The Last Leaf – Personification
Group 4 – The Monkey’s Paw – Metaphor
Then, the teacher will facilitate the students in discussing to the class what their
group has come up with from what they have researched.

ENRICHMENT
Instructions: The students will be given another set of 21st Century Literary Texts
(excerpts) and they must categorize those texts in a specific technique and theme
it belongs to. Of the texts they categorized, they will produce a graphic organizer
that will visually identify the parts of the given literary text and the corresponding
technique and theme. The texts to be broken down are as follows: Hunger
Games, Paper Towns, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Origin (Dan Brown).
