Title: Cornell Notes​ ​Title of Novel

Step #1 - Copy

- Set up your page.

1. Go to FILE and PAGE SETUP. Make sure you have chosen PORTRAIT and the boxes

under margins have a ​1 ​(one inch of space on each side).

2. Go to FORMAT and LINE SPACING. Check off DOUBLE. This will skip lines.

3. Choose ​Times New Roman​ and ​12​ as your font.

4. Go to INSERT and HEADER AND PAGE NUMBER and PAGE NUMBER. Click the

TOP box on the RIGHT. This will number your pages beginning on the SECOND page.

Step #2

Click ​INSERT​ and then ​TABLE. ​Highlight until you get 2 x 2. Your table should look like this:

Highlight the entire bottom row and double click. Then click on ​MERGE CELLS​, A cell is one
of the squares. Merge cells will join the two squares together. Your table should now look like
this:

In the cell on the top right. Type ​Notes Title of Novel​ ​Chapters___​ In the cell on the top left, type
Cues.​ ​In the cell on the bottom type ​Summary.​ Your table shall now look like this.

Step #5 Type the questions in the notes section. These are the ones you will be answering for the
assignment. Your table should now look like this:

responsible? Why or why not?

Step #6 - Answer the questions in the box. I recommend using a ​DIFFERENT​ color for your
answers.

STEP #7

Look at your answers in the notes. Find TWO or THREE important words in that answer. Write
them in the​ CUES​ column. Do this for ​EACH​ answer.
STEP #8

Write a ​summary​ of your answers in the ​Summary ​ box, use these starters. For ​Title of Novel,
write the title of your novel. Substitute the ​title of the novel​ you are working on and the name of
the ​main character ​or ​PROTAGONIST​ for the letters in ​blue.

In chapter _____ of ​Title of Novel​, ​Name of main character ​decides to ____________ in order to
____________. A problem ​Name of main character​ has to deal with is ___________________.
Name of Main character​ ​learns that ________________________​. ​One result of​ ​Name of main
character​’s​ ​decision is __________________________.

GRADING:

To get credit, you must have a set of Cornell Notes for each SET of chapters.

I need at least ONE answer under each question to receive credit. I also need
cues​ and ​summary​ for EACH set of Cornell Notes.

You will get 50 points per each novel. Points will be deducted if the notes are
turned in late. If you are sharing the document over GoogleDocs, send the
document to PReyburn@sppschool.org.
