"CREATIVITY ON BOARDS”

Come April the classes begin to attain a different look as the group of students change.
This year too on 8 April 2018 the inside boards of the VII & VIII classrooms were revamped
with new inputs from the students. These boards not only appear colourful but contain
information on diverse topics ranging from Languages, Social Studies, Maths, Science
and Art . The boards are updated from time to time to motivate learning.

YOGA DAY CELEBRATION
21 Jun 2018
Yoga is not just about doing asanas for your health. It has more meaning to it as it elevates
your emotions with a touch of spirituality, thereby giving you the ability to overcome a lot
of problems in your life. June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day. Students of
classes VII and VIII of Delhi Public School Surat also celebrated the same by performing
various yogasanas to reiterate the importance of physical and mental tness. Apart from
the asanas, pranayama was also performed for breath control and better concentration.

"CLASH OF THE TITANS”
21 Jul 2018
On 21 July 2018, a debate was held by the Debate Club on the topic “India As A Whole: Are
We Really Progressing?” It was an inter-house debate competition in which all the four
houses from classes IX and X participated enthusiastically. Phoenix House and Unicorn
House spoke for the motion where as Dragon House and Gryphon House spoke against
the motion. The debate was judged by four members of the teaching faculty. Gryphon
House was declared the winner and Shantanu Motiani, from the Gryphon House was
declared as the best speaker.

COMIC STRIP ON ROAD SAFETY

The imagination and creativity of Class VII and VIII students was put to test during the
Intra Class Comic Strip Competition held on 21st July 2018 in the secondary block. The
students came up with excellent ideas to prepare comic strips which gave eye opening
messages and created awareness on the important issue of Road Safety.

AD - MAD
25 Jul 2018
To spread awareness about MR(Measles and Rubella) vaccination, Delhi Public School
Surat organised an advertisement making activity. It was on 25 July 2018, students of
classes IX and X enthusiastically participated in this activity aptly named ‘AD-MAD’.
Students exhibited a spirit of cooperation as they worked together in pairs to create
beautiful and informative advertisements. They used decorative items to bring out their
creativity.

"GET A MR BOOSTER”

On 4 Aug 2018, students of Classes VII & VIII volunteered to be a part of the Indian
Government's drive to eradicate infectious diseases like Measles and Rubella. They
created informative and striking posters to bring about an awareness about these deadly
diseases and also encouraged others to get vaccinated for these.

VOYAGE IN SPACE

The month of August was a busy one with students of Classes VII & VIII seen planning &
decorating the boards outside their classes. They created a beautiful universe in the
corridors of the block with themes ranging from formation of the universe to
constellations in the sky.

"JOURNEY OF THE UNIVERSE"

Class Board Decoration was held on 4 August and 18 August 2018, in the Secondary Block
which depicted the 'Journey of Universe' from the rst second of the universe to the
present date. The competition gave students a platform to display their creative skills and
also gave them a chance to learn how to work in small groups.

INTER-DPS QUIZ (ZONAL )
25 Aug 2018
Delhi Public School Jaipur, initiated an Inter DPS Quiz Competition on 25 August 2018 to
facilitate the spread of the light of knowledge. Around 115 students from 20 DPS
participated in the competition. Students form DPS Surat participated in Junior and
Senior categories. Divit Agarwal-Class-VI, Arjun Agarwal-Class-VII and Keshav Agarwal
Class-VIII participated in Junior Category where as Dhwanil Desai-Class-XI, Krishiv
Agarwal-Class-X and Piyush Agarwal-Class-IX participated in Senior Category. Senior
boys managed to qualify the semi-nals for the zone.

ARCHITECTS OF MODERN INDIA

An activity was conducted on 1 September 2018, to enlighten the students of classes VII &
VIII about legends who have contributed in building modern India. Excellent charts were
prepared by the students, with information and pictures of eminent personalities whose
efforts have shaped the bright future of our country. Some prominent gures were A.P.J.
Abdul Kalam, J.R.D. Tata and Vikram Sarabhai.

"A LETTER TO MOTHERLAND”

Students of classes IX and X of Delhi Public School, Surat participated in Dhai Akhar
National Level Letter Writing Competition which was organized by "Department of Posts"
to promote the art of letter writing across the country. The theme "A Letter to Motherland"
inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's “Amar Desher Mati” was aimed to encourage students
and to connect them with their land. Students expressed their feelings in the letter with
avours of patriotism, zest and commitment.

WILD WISDOM QUIZ 2018

A team of two students of DPS Surat, Arjun Agarwal of Class VII B and Saksham Sarda of
VIII F participated in a City level :Wild Wisdom Quiz at Valsad organized by Shreevallabh
Sanskar Dham's Smt. S. P. Patel Day Boarding School, Z illa - Pardi under the middles
category on 7 September 2018. They got the chance to explore environmental knowledge
based on ora and fauna of India.

"IGNITED MINDS”
06 Oct 2018
6 October 2018 heralded an exciting Inter-Class Science Quiz Contest “IGNITED
MINDS”. Four teams from classes IX and X Participated in the same: Brilliant
Chromosomes, Brainoholic Warriors, Mind Bogglers and Mind Martians. Students of
class X were the coordinators and quizmasters of the event. The team that scored the
most was Mind Bogglers, which was followed by Mind Martians who took the second
position and Brilliant Chromosomes bagged the third position. There was much jubilation
amongst the winners.

BEATS OF GUJARAT

The most awaited and colourful festival of Gujarat, Navratri, was depicted on stage by
Class VII D during their special assembly on 9 October 2018. The students presented
beautiful songs and dances showcasing the festive spirit of Gujarat. They also performed
a mime explaining the precautions to be taken by one and all during Navratri. The mime
had a traditional touch conveying the message that Garba is a form of reverence to
Goddess Durga and not just a trend. The assembly was not only entertaining but also
informative.

"NRITYA NATIKA”
10 Oct 2018
The dawn of October 10, 2018 came with the shower of blessings of MaaDurga for
Dipsites. On seventeenth of October of 2018, class IX -A presented a special assembly-
“Nritya Natika” on the legendary “ Mahishasur Mardini ”. The act was followed by a
speech relating Maa Durga with present day women and expressed the eternal strength
of woman. The celebration continued with the beats of Garba song dedicated to Goddess
Durga, connecting everyone to the divine.

AMAZING SCIENCE

Come October and the students of classes VII & VIII of Delhi Public School Surat were
busy discussing Science for a group activity related to the subject. On 6 October 2018 the
students began preparation in school on the topics assigned by their science teachers,
which were presented in the class on 20 October 2018. They came up with smart ideas to
make their presentations condent and creative. The Dipsites proved that they were
children of substance when they presented topics ranging from ‘Formation of Seasons’ to
‘Nano Technology’. This not only enhanced their understanding of the subjects but also
helped in developing their soft skills like teamwork, time management and condence.

INTERHOUSE PHILATELY QUIZ

Philately starts where the catalogue ends. “Imagination is more important than
knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while
imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and
understand’.‘Inter-House Philately Quiz’ for classes VII, VIII and IX on October 20, 2018
was initiated by Class-X students. The four houses participated with three fervent
participants each and gave a tough battle to co-contestants. The students of class IX were
the enthusiastic audience to witness this exciting event.

FIRST AID WORKSHOP

On 20 October 2018, Delhi Public school, Surat held a rst aid workshop for students of
classes IX and X, which was skilfully conducted by the school inrmary staff Ms. Sarika
Tandlekar. The students were made aware of do’s and don’ts to be considered during a
medical emergency with the help of a power point presentation. The students were taught
how to deal with people facing asthma attacks, burns, dizziness, problems related to
blood pressure. They were taught how to identify fractures and sprains. There was
practical training on how to dress wounds, fractures, head injuries and sprains. Students
were trained to prepare a rst aid kit. After this workshop, the students worked in groups
to make projects on the same topic. In all it was an informative session which was well
received by the students.

"MISSION CLEANLINESS”
20 Oct 2018
October 20, 2018- an activity “Mission Cleanliness” was conducted. The students of
classes IX & X enthusiastically participated in the campaign to support ‘Swachh
Vidhyalya Abhiyaan’. The students volunteered to clean and organise their classrooms.
They measured the pH level of the drinking water and the swimming pools. The plants in
and around the school were watered and the gardens were cleaned. This activity made
the students learn about the proper waste disposal and gave them the ability to sensitize
other people about it. Cleanliness eased the students by de-stressing them and think
positively.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

October 23, 2018 Students of class X got an opportunity to attend an interactive session
with Mr. Vivek Jha, the Head of Energy Efciency Monitoring Department of NTP Ltd. Mr.
Jha enthralled the students with his informative presentation on ‘Environment
Management and New Technological Initiatives’. In order to inspire them to take initiative
towards sustainable development, which is the need of the hour, he highlighted that the
contribution towards ecological balance and prevention of environment degradation is
essential for future existence of mankind. It was an enlightening session and widened the
horizon of the students to be sensitive and alert towards the planet.

OFFICIALLY UNOFFENDED

Sixteen comedians, eight pairs, two mics and one stage. This is what the morning of
October 24, 2018 brought with it to Delhi Public School Surat. The exemplary comic timing
and trait of the 16 participants tickled the funny bones of the audience. The atmosphere
was lled with laughter and brimming with jokes, belted out professionally by our
amateur but enthusiastic participants in the rst ever stand-up comedy competition held
by students of Literary Club (IX and X). The event was a hit all the way and ended with a
message, 'Why so serious?? '

SMC-URBAN HEALTH CENTER
03 - 04 Dec 2018
The rst week of December heralded a wonderful opportunity for the students of classes
X of Delhi Public School Surat to take a eld trip down to the Urban Health Centre, on 3 and
4 December 2018; where they were addressed by the General Physician, Mr. Desai. The
benevolent staff aided the students to understand the objective of the Urban Health
Centre which is to provide primary health care facilities to the localised population at
subsidised rates. The Dipsites had an interactive session which augmented their
knowledge in the subject.

OUTBOUND LEARNING
25-27 Dec 2018
A eld trip to Surat Fort was planned for students of class VII on 26, 27, 28 December 2018.
It was an experiential learning wherein children got to explore the local history and
heritage by taking a tour of the fort, along with a video presentation and handout of its
brief history. A questionnaire was given to the students after the trip as a post learning
assignment.

LANGUAGE - A PLAY OF WORDS

Wonderful Words!! This was what Shobit Desai, renowned Gujarati poet spoke about
during his guest lecture at Delhi Public School Surat on 27 December 2018. Speaking to
the students of Class VIII, he explained how language is the most important part of our
being. He also emphasized the fact that learning the mother tongue played a signicant
role in the learning of other languages. He demonstrated the impact of dialects in
language in interesting ways.The students were charmed by him when he presented Nida
Fazli’s ghazal on the occasion.

Kite ying has been a major event during Uttarayan . To mark the celebrations a kite
making activity was organized for students of Class VII on 5 January 2019. The Students
came up with innovative ideas to prepare kites of different shapes and sizes. Not only did
they exhibit their creativity but also conveyed the message to y the kite right. With
meaningful and touching slogans they created awareness about the dangers kites might
pose for our feathered friends.

DRAMA FEST

Class VIII students hosted the Annual Drama Fest on Saturday 19 January 2019. A
captivating instrumental composition was performed by the creative band of young
musicians. The vocal performance was a heart touching song beautifully rendered by the
young vocalists. 'Another Day in Paradise', the English play was a musical drama, about
orphans, which gave the inspiring message of hope and optimism in the darkest of
times.The Hindi play 'Parikhsha –Ek Maa Sangram' depicted in a hilarious and realistic
way the pressures faced not only by students but also parents in this competitive age.The
energetic dances stirred the audiences and warmed their hearts with messages they
conveyed. The spectacular show left the audience mesmerized.

WE LOVE MATHS

The important subject of Maths is made interesting in many ways at DPS Surat so that
students are less intimidated as the curriculum accelerates and becomes more
challenging. A Maths Activity was carried out for students of Class VII on Saturday 19
January 2019 wherein a variety of puzzles were given in a worksheet for challenging the
numerical and logical skills of the children. They even tried out a word search which
enabled them to revise the different mathematical terms. This sure was an effective way
of confronting the fear of the subject for those who have a Math anxiety and more fun for
the ones who love Maths.

"POWER TO THE PEOPLE”

The students of Delhi Public School Surat celebrated the 70th Republic Day with vigour,
vibrancy and unmatched enthusiasm. The day began with the tricolour being hoisted by
the chief guest Mrs. Draupadi Devi whereas the function was graced by the Pro-Vice
Chairman, Mr. Pradip Kumar.
The cultural program was a perfect amalgamation of creativity and coordination, driven
by the feeling of oneness and patriotism. The pride for the country was tangible in the air
as the program followed the theme of 'Progressive India'. The students took home the
message that the progress of the country is the responsibility of each of its citizens and
not just the Government. The program ended up being an audio visual treat for the
encouraging audience.

PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday 29 January, interacted with teachers,
students and parents across the country during ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0’ program, held
at Talkatora Stadium in the national capital. The program was telecast live across the
nation. Prime Minister Modi spelled out the success mantra to help them approach their
exams in a stress free manner. According to the Prime Minister the parents should not
treat their kids’ report cards as their visiting cards. He also touched upon several burning
issues like depression, technology addiction and parental pressure, apart from the tips
on how to tackle the exam pressure.

"KING LEAR”

The Shakespeare Society of Delhi Public School Surat and Tapi proved its talent once
again by an excellent show put up on the stage of Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium during the
Annual Drama Fest on 2 February 2019. The play was ‘King Lear’, which depicted the
gradual descent into madness of the king, after he disposes of his kingdom by giving
bequests to his elder two daughters. The power-packed performances of Class IX
students captivated the audience. The grandeur of the Elizabethan era came alive on
stage through the wonderful costumes and the stage props.

READY RECKONER

An Inter Class Mathematics Dictionary making competition was held on 2 February 2019
for class IX students. The students participated enthusiastically in the assignment,
writing meanings and denitions of the various mathematical terminology using their
NCERT textbooks. The creativity of the students peeped out from the decorative cover
pages that were made. The activity was meant to enhance the mathematical curiosity in
the minds of the students.

"STUDENT OF THE YEAR”
09 Feb 2019
Students of Delhi Public School Surat participated in a ‘Mega Quiz Competition-Student
of The Year’ organized by 'Sandesh' newspaper on 9 February 2019. Three students were
selected for the Grand Finale at Ahmedabad. Krishiv Desai of VII-E , Yagna Mehta of VIII-E
and Ananya Roy Karmakar of IX-D. Krishiv Desai bagged the First Position and Yagna
Mehta was the Runners Up in Surat City. They were awarded with a cash prize of Rs.
25000/- and a trophy.

POETRY IN HINDI

A Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition was organized for Classes VII & VIII of DPS Surat
on 16 February 2019. The students recited a plethora of Hindi poems with much zeal. They
delivered beautifully works of notable poets such as Gulzar, Harivansh Rai Bachchan,
Sunil Jogi, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan and many more. This competition was a wonderful
opportunity for the students to explore the rich Hindi literature.

A VISIT TO THE LAND OF HEROES
5-16 Feb 2019
In February 2019, Class VIII students visited Rajasthan- a destination with lakes, forests,
forts and palaces. They observed the Rajput styles of architecture at the Kumbalgarh and
Chittorgarh fort. History lessons came alive at the Haldighati museum and the Maharana
Pratap Memorial. A thrilling jeep safari at Kumbalgarh Widlife Sanctuary took them
through the rough terrains of the forest to witness some endangered wildlife. Udaipur,
‘The City of Lakes’ offered some pleasurable moments at Saheliyon-ki-bari. The
fascinating light and sound show conducted at the Udaipur City Palace brought alive the
history of the House of Mewar. The trip was a wonderful blend of history, wildlife and folk

JUNIOR EDITOR - IV
16 Feb 2019
Junior Editor IV - a national level competition, was launched by DIVYA BHASKAR for
students of classes I to XII. The competition was divided in different age groups wherein
the children were required to design a newspaper on the given format. The idea behind
this activity was to develop the creative, reading, observation & writing skills within the
students. Out of eight winners declared at the State Level, four were from DPS SURAT.
The Winners, Vedant Seth-V Std, Lavanya Agrawal-VI Std, Nandika Agrawal-IX Std and
Vihaa Kapadia-X Std. made the school proud.
