LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING (Genesiś 2:18-24)

A Reading from the Book of Genesiś.

The Lord God said: “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable
partner for him.” So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals
and various birds, in the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would
call them: whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The man gave
names to all cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild animals, but none proved
to be the suitable partner for the man. So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man
and while he was asleep, he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.
The Lord God then build up into a woman the rib that He had taken from the man.
When He brought her to the man, the man said: “This one, at last, is bone of my
bones and flesh from my flesh: This one shall be called “woman,” for out of “her
man” this one has been taken.” That is why two of them become one body.

The word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

3|P a g e
R. “Happy are those who fear the Lord.”

Psalmist: Happy are you, who fear the Lord,

Who walks in his ways!
For you shall eat the fruit of your handwork
Happy you shall be, and favored. R.

Psalmist: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine

In the recess of your home
Your children like olive plants
Around your table. R.

Psalmist: Behold, thus is the man blessed

Who fears the Lord.
The Lord bless from Zion:
May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
All the days of your life. R..

SECOND READING (EPHESIANS 5:21-32)

A Reading from the first letter of Paul to the Ephesians.

Beloved, be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives should be
subordinates to their husband as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of his wife just
as Christ is the head of the Church, he himself the savior of the body. As the Church is
subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ love the Church and handed Himself over for
her. Husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves
himself. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to
Christ and the Church.
The word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God.

COMMENTATOR: Please all stand to honor the Holy Gospel.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

ALL (sing): Alleluia. . .

GOSPEL (MATTHEW 19:3)

4|P a g e
V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

V. (+) A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St Matthew.
R. Glory to you, O Lord.

Some Pharisees approached him, and test him. Saying: Is it lawful for a man to divorce his
wife for any cause whatsoever?” He said in reply, “Have you not read that from the
beginning the Creator made them male and female, for this reason a man shall leave his
father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they
are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being
must separate.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

COMMENTATOR: Please all be seated and let us listen to the Homily.

PRESENTATION OF THE NEWLY WED COUPLE TO THE ASSEMBLED

COMMUNITY

8|P a g e
Priest: My dear brothers and sisters gathered in this assembly, it is my great honor to
present to you JOHN ANGELO and TONI ROSE, as a new married couple in
our community. Let us give them a warm applause.
COMMENTATOR: May I request the Parents and Principal Sponsors to return to their
respective seats.

VEIL AND CORD CEREMONIES

COMMENTATOR: May I request JOHN ANGELO and TONI ROSE, to please kneel down.
The Secondary Sponsors will now put the Veil and Cord as symbols of God’s presence
over the Covenant they entered into and their shared responsibility in married life oneness
in flesh.
We ask the Veil Sponsors to offer and lay the symbol of purity. The veil symbolizes the
authority of Christ. The veil is placed over the head of the bride and over the shoulder of
the bridegroom. With the help of our Lord, JOHN ANGELO will love and serve his
wife, as Christ loves the Church. TONI ROSEwill open herself to her love and allow
JOHN ANGELO to serve her in his way.
We ask the Cord Sponsors, to offer and lay the symbol of unity. The cord also called the
“Jugal” from the Latin word “jugum” which means yoke. A yoke signifies two things:
something to be carried and something that unites those who carry it. The cord symbolizes
the “Yoke of Matrimony” – the bonds of commitment of JOHN ANGELO and TONI
ROSE. Have for each other as God has joined them together.
Please all stand for the Intercessory Prayers.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest: Dearly beloved, let us now pray for the Church and for our newly wedded couple
whose marriage reflects the union of Christ and His Church. In every petition, let
our response be:
R. “Lord, graciously hear us.”

READER: For the holy Church spread all over the world; for its leaders and fort the rulers of our
nation, let us pray to the Lord. R.

READER: For the poor and the sick and for all those in trial and affliction, let us pray to the
Lord. R.
READER: For JOHN ANGELO and TONI ROSE that God may keep their hearts united
forever; let us pray to the Lord. R.

9|P a g e
READER: That He may protect them from evil, lighten their burdens and fortify them in their
trials, let us pray to the Lord. R.
PRIEST: Almighty, eternal God, look down with favor upon your servants JOHN
ANGELO and TONI ROSE. Grant them to remain faithful to you and to one
another. And at the end of a long and well-spent life, reward them with eternal
happiness together (with their children) all those who love them. We ask this
through Christ, our Lord.
R. Amen.
COMMENTATOR: Please remain standing for the Nuptial Blessing.

THE NUPTIAL BLESSING

PRIEST: Let us pray to the Lord for these Bride and Groom, who come to the altar as
they begin their married life, that (partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ)
they may always be bound together by love for one another.

Holy Father, who formed man in your image, male and female you created them,
so that as husband and wife, united in body and heart, they might fulfill their
calling in the world.
Oh God, who, to reveal the great design you formed in your love, willed that the
love of spouses for each other should foreshadow the covenant you graciously
made with your people, so that, by fulfillment of the sacramental sign, the mystical
marriage of Christ with his Church might become manifest in the union of
husband and wife among your faithful;
Graciously stretch out your right hand over these your servants, JOHN ANGELO
and TONI ROSE, we pray, and pour into their hearts the power of the Holy
Spirit.
Grant, O Lord, that, as they enter upon this sacramental union, they may share
with one another the gifts of your love and, by being for each other a sign of your
presence, become one heart and one mind.
May they also attain, O Lord, by their deeds the home they are forming (and
prepare their children to become members of your heavenly household by raising
them in the way of the Gospel.)
Graciously crown with your blessings your daughter TONI ROSE so that, by
being a good wife (and mother), she may bring warmth to her home with a love
that is pure and adorn it with welcoming graciousness. Bestow a heavenly blessing

10 | P a g e
also, O Lord, on JOHN ANGELO, your servant, that he may be a worthy, a good
and faithful husband (and a provident father).
Grant, holy Father, that, desiring to approach your table as a couple joined in
Marriage in your presence, they may one day have the joy of taking part in your
great banquet in heaven. Through Christ our Lord.
ALL: Amen.

COMMENTATOR: Please be seated for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. May I request the
Secondary Sponsors to please remove the Cord and Veil. At this moment, together with
JOHN ANGELO and TONI ROSE we will offer our gifts to the Lord as thanksgiving for
all our blessings especially at this moment that the Lord has made for them. The
Eucharistic Gifts will be brought in procession to the Altar.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Presentation of Gifts and Preparation of the Altar
During the presentation of the gifts, a fitting offertory song is sung and the altar table is prepared
by the deacons and the acolytes.
The Presider takes the paten with the bread and holding it slightly raised above the altar says:
Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation
for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.

People: Blessed be God for ever.

The Priest pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying quietly:
By the mystery of this water and wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

11 | P a g e
The priest then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands,
saying in a low voice:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation
for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands
it will become our spiritual drink.

Then he places the chalice on the corporal.

If, however, the offertory chant is not sung, the Priest may speak these words aloud; at the end,
the people may acclaim.
Blessed be God for ever.
After this, the Priest, bowing profoundly, says quietly:
With humble spirit and contrite heart
may we be accepted by you, O Lord,
and may our sacrifice in your sight this day
be pleasing to you, Lord God.
Then the Priest, standing at the side of the altar and washes his hands saying inaudibly:
Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
COMMENTATOR: All please stand.
Standing at the altar, facing the people, the Cardinal extends and then join his hands, saying:
Pray brethren (brothers and sisters),
that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.

R. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands

for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Receive in your kindness, Lord, the offerings we bring in gladness before you, and in your
fatherly love watch over those you have joined in a sacramental covenant. Through Christ
our Lord.
R. Amen.

12 | P a g e
Preface: Eucharistic Prayer II
Priest: The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

Priest: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to
give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our
Lord.

For in him you have made a new covenant with your people, so that, as you have
redeemed man and woman by the mystery of Christ’s Death and Resurrection, so
in Christ you might make them partakers of divine nature and joint heirs with
him of heavenly glory.

In the union of husband and wife you give a sign of Christ’s loving gift of grace, so
that the Sacrament we celebrate might draw us back more deeply into the
wondrous design of your love and so, with the Angels and all the Saints, we praise
you, and without end we acclaim:

ALL (sing): Holy, Holy ….

CONSECRATION
COMMENTATOR: Please all kneel.

The Priest with hands extended, says:

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offering, says:
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the
dewfall,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together,
saying:
So that they may become for us the Body and (+) Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and distinctly, as
the nature of these words requires.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion,

13 | P a g e
He takes the bread and , holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
He took the bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in
adoration. After this, he continues:
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly rais

ed above the altar, continues:

He took the chalice and, once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:
He Bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT
FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in adoration.
Then he says:
The mystery of Faith.
And the people continue, acclaiming:
We proclaim you Death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you
come again.
COMMENTATOR: Please remain kneeling.
Then the priest, with hands extended, says:

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection, we offer you,
Lord the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.

14 | P a g e
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered
into one by the Holy Spirit.
(Concelebrant 1):
Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the
fullness of charity, together with FRÁNCÏS our Pope and JOSÉ our Bishop and all the
clergy.
Be mindful also Lord, of JOHN ANGELO and TONI ROSE, whom you have brought to
their wedding day, so that by your grace they may abide in mutual love and in peace.
(Concelebrant 2):
Remember also our brothers, and sisters, who have fallen asleep in the hope of the
resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of your
face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and
St. Joseph her spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and
glorify you.
He joins his hands

Through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

The priest, taking the paten with the host and the deacon the chalice, says:

THROUGH HIM,
AND WITH HIM,
AND IN HIM,
O GOD, ALMIGHTY FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS,
FOR EVER AND EVER.

R. Amen. . .

COMMUNION RITE
Priest: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
The assembly led by the choir sings the Lord’s Prayer.

Commentator: Please all stand.

15 | P a g e
. .With hands extended, the Priest alone continues, saying:
Deliver us, Lord; we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The assembly led by the choir sings the Doxology.

ALL (sing): For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
Then the priest, with hands extended, says aloud:
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
He joins his hands.

Who live and reign for ever and ever.

R. Amen.
The priest, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his, adds:

The peace of the Lord be with you always.

R. And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

And all offer one another a sign, in keeping with local custom, that express peace, communion, and
charity. The priest gives the sign of peace to a Deacon or Minister.
May this mingling of the Body and Blood
of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.
Meanwhile the lamb of God following is sing or said:
Lamb of God….

PRIVATE PREPARATION
Then the presider, with hands joined, says quietly:
May the receiving of your Body and Blood,
Lord Jesus Christ,

16 | P a g e
not bring me to judgment and condemnation,
but through your loving mercy
be for me protection in mind and body
and a healing remedy.

COMMUNION
The presider genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above the
chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
Priest:
Behold the Lamb of God
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
The presider, facing the altar, says quietly:
May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
And he reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says quietly:
May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
And he reverently consumes the Blood of Christ.
