eo: Good day panelists and to all fellow researchers! I am Meo Angelo Z. Alcantara.

laizza: Alaizza Mae P. Catulay

cah: and Ricah Hanah Marie S. Pareja

eo: We are the researchers of the project entitled Talisay Leaves as an Anti-Microbial Agent for Molds

(Aspergillus Fumigatus).

(Slide 1)

cah: Since, Philippines is a country with “dry and wet season” and both of these seasons are

prevalent in the country for over a long period of time there is a high possibility for molds to

develop. Molds accumulate their growth in moist and wet areas so it is more likely to grow in wet

seasons. However, molds are harmful since they produce mycotoxins. The fact that it could grow

anywhere and could possibly threaten humans is dangerous.

laizza: This led to the researchers innovating a new product/study that can inhibit the growth and

possibly kill of this microbe inside a human body without affecting the host itself. This study

could help attain a new knowledge of information whether in the field of microbiology or for a

profound knowledge of talisay as a potential antimicrobial agent.

(Slide 2)

eo: The researchers seeks to answer the problems or questions stated. First, what are the factors

involved in proving the effectiveness of Talisay (Terminalia Cattapa) leaves as an anti-fungal

agent? Second, will the molds react to the anti-fungal or anti-microbial properties of the Talisay

(Terminalia Cattapa) leaves?

(Slide 3)

laizza: First, the researchers will harvest talisay leaves from Surigao City. The molds will
be collected from Philippine National Collection of Microorganisms (PNCM) in
University of the Philippines Los Baños. The testing ground of the study will be at DOST
Cebu, Philippines where field experts will be present for accurate data findings and
procedures of the study.

cah: Talisay leaves will undergo phytochemical testing in order to identify the factors or
the biochemical components that will affect the outcomes of the study. The talisay leaves
will be air dried and turned to powder in order to preserve its biochemical components.
The powdered talisay leaves will then be made into an extract using ethanol.

eo: The ethanolic extract of the talisay leaves will undergo laboratory testing and analysis
in its inhibition factor and antifungal activity against the mold. Lastly, the results will be
analyzed with the use of a statistical tool.
