1. Haggins Plumbing and Heating Maintains a stock of 30-gallon hot water heaters that it’s sells to home –
owners and installs for them. The owner likes the idea of having large supply on hand so as to meet over
the past 50 weeks and notes the following:
Hot water heater Sales per week 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Number of weeks the numbers was sold 6 5 9 12 9 7 3
Using the random numbers given below, stimulate demand for 20 weeks and answer the following
questions:
A. If Huggins maintains a constant supply of 8 hot water heaters in any given week, how many times will
he be out of stock during the 20 week simulation period?
B. What is the average number of heaters demanded per week over the 20 week interval?
Random Numbers:
10 28 03 32 23 59 95 34 34 51
08 48 66 97 03 96 46 74 77 44

2. Dr. Strong is a dentist who schedules all her patients for 30 minutes appointments. Some of the patients
take more or less than 30 minutes, depending upon on the type of dental work to be done. The following
summary shows the various categories of work, their appointments and the time actually needed to
complete the work. Simulate the dentist’s clinic for four hours and determine average waiting time for the
patients as well as the idle time of the doctor. Assume that al l the patients show up at the clinic exactly
their scheduled arrival time starting at 8 a.m. Use the following random numbers for handling the above
problem: 40,82,11,34,25,66,17 and 79.

3. The Tit-Fit Scientific laboratory is engaged in producing different types of high class equipment for use
in science laboratories. The company has two different assembly lines to produce its most popular product
‘X”. The processing time for each of the assembly lines is regarded as a random variable is described by
the following distributions. Using the following random numbers, generate data on the process times for
15 units of the item and compute the expected process time for the product. For the purpose, read the
numbers vertically taking the first two digits for the processing time on assembly 1 and the last two digits
for processing time on assembly 2.
