III. Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
-Better morning/ Better afternoon class! Better afternoon too, sir.

-May I request everyone to stand and put our (students will stand)
self in the presence of God. Let us pray.

-Kindly arrange your chairs, pick up those (students will arrange the chairs and pick
trashes under your chair, remove unnecessary up trashes)
things on top of your chairs and sit properly.

-Now, are you ready? -Yes Sir!

1
B. Motivation
- I want you to look for a partner.
- Is everyone has a partner?

- I want you to get your notes or any piece

of paper will do.
- Individual work but you may discuss with
your partner.
- I want you to do the activity posted on the
board.
- You are given 3 minutes to do the activity.
- Activity: Each item below shows a
pattern. Identify the next three terms of the
given set of numbers.
Fill in the blank. Answers:
1. 1,2,3,4,5, ___,___,____ 1. 1,2,3,4,5, 6,7,8
2. 2,4,6,8,___,___,____ 2. 2,4,6,8,10,12,14
3. 1,4,9,16,___,___ ,___ 3. 1,4,9,16,25,36,49
4. 2,4,8,16,32___,___,___ 4. 2,4,8,16,32, 64, 128, 256
5. 1,8,27,64,___,___,___ 5. 1,8,27,64,125,216,343

C. Presentation
- How did you identify the next terms in - We had identified the next terms by
each of the given set of numbers? following a pattern or rule.
- Very Good!
- What is the rule or pattern for the first - 1. Set of counting numbers
one? Second, third and etc. 2. Set of even numbers
- Very good! 3. set of square numbers
- The given sets of numbers above are 4. multiplying by 2 to the preceding
examples of sequences. term
- This morning/afternoon, we are going to 5. set of cube numbers
discuss about sequence.

D. Comparison and Abstraction

- How do you define sequence now? - A sequence is a set of numbers
- Very Good! written in a special order by the
- Now, given this sequence 2,4,6,8,10 application of a definite rule. Each
- How many terms does it have? number of the sequence is called the
- What is the first term? Second term? first term followed by the second
- What if class I am going to write the given term, and so on.
sequence this way:
2, 4,6,8,10 …… - The sequence has 5 terms.
- Do you think they are still the same with
the first one? - 2 is the first term followed by 4,6,8,
- Can you determine the last term for the and 10 respectively.
sequence 2, 4,6,8,10 ….? - No.
- So, sequence can be classified as finite - No.
and infinite. - 2, 4,6,8,10, is a finite sequence
- In the given 2 examples, which do you - 2, 4,6,8,10 …. is an infinite
think is the finite sequence and infinite sequence
sequence?

- So, what is the difference between a finite - A finite sequence has a first term
and infinite sequence? and a last term while an infinite
sequence has a first term but no last
term.

2
- Previously you are given the terms and
you need to find the rule or pattern.
- Now we will do the reverse given the
pattern or rule you need to give the terms.
- Given a sequence, we need to identify its
pattern or rule. Now, we are going to find
the terms of the sequence following a rule.
- Consider the rule y= 2x+1, identify the - y= 2x+1
first four terms of the sequence. x=1
- To identify the terms of the sequence we y= 2(1)+1=3
will just simply substitute x by the set of x=2
natural numbers. y=2(2) +1=5
- Who can try to solve it on the board? x=3
y=2(3)+1=7
x=4
- Very Good! y=2(4)+1=9
- What are the first four terms of the
sequence following the rule y=2x+1? - {3,5,7,9}

E. Generalization
- Based on our discussion, what is a - A sequence is the set of numbers
sequence? written in a special order by the
application of a definite rule.

- How do we identify the next terms in each - By following a rule or pattern.

of given set of numbers?
- A finite sequence has a first term
- How do we differentiate finite sequence and a last term while an infinite
and infinite sequence? sequence has a first term but no last
term.

- Did you understand class?

- Are there any questions?

F. Application
- By group (joining of 3 pairs)
- Each group will be given a manila paper
to write their answers.
- You are given 5 minutes to do the group
activity. Then post your work on the board
and we will discuss the answers.

Problem: The cost of calling through a cell phone

is P 8.00 per minute.
Solution:
a. Find the cost for 5 minutes, for 10 a.
minutes, for 20 minutes, for 30 minutes. x 5 10 20 30
Tabulate your answer.
y 40 80 160 240
x ( number of 5 10 20 30
minutes)
y ( cost)

b. Give the equation that shows the b. y= 8x

relationship between the number of
minutes (x) and the total cost of call (y).
y=______
3
c. Plot the points (x, y) in the table on x-y
plane. c.

IV. Evaluation

On a one -half sheet of paper, write the first four terms of the sequence with the given rule. Show
solutions completely. Note: Use set of natural/counting numbers for your values of x.

1. y= 3x+5
2. y= 2x2

V. Assignment

On a one whole sheet of paper, write the first four terms of the sequence with the given rule. Show
solutions completely. Note: Use set of natural/counting numbers for your values of x.

1. y= 3x
2. y= x2-9
3. y= x3-1
4. y= 5x+3
5. y= x2-3x+2
