Artist statement
My work deviates from contemporary Art in Mexico, and involves three contrasting mediums. I
use all three to depict the relationship between everyday life and art as a demarcated aesthetic
experience involving spectators. My work celebrates the traces people leave on the world. I
treasure the local, the small-scale, the eccentric, the ordinary, and the forgotten.
Second, the mural projects developed with COARCO: A non-governmental institution aiming to
give contemporary art a new sense of community, in lower or medium class areas wherever
possible. The Murals depict a traditional Mexican weaving, which is an analogy of how individual
actions inside a community influence one another. The colours are selected by contrast and
equivalence and are embedded in symmetrical shapes, which create a kaleidoscopic background
for the everyday activities of educational and community centres.
Third, The abstract paintings are a personal scheme, which attends to foster a new vocabulary
regarding perception. Most images are based in personal experiences and as a register of a certain
state of mind while being painted. As an academic practice, the challenge is to simplify
abstraction showing the viewer a fathomable reading of it. To achieve this, the paintings take
reference in previously known abstract artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Wilhelm De Kooning, and
Yayoi Kusama. Creating a bridge amongst convoluted rationalisations and immediate experience.
In essence, the purpose of my work is to involve everyday activities and individuals into the art
world to establish a conversation with the viewer, inviting them to acknowledge their belonging
to a realm that appears completely detached from reality but that is not. Striving to emphasize
and endorse the importance of inspiration, critical thinking, and visual deciphering in every aspect
of our life.
