Lick 7

This lick puts the root under the chromatic lick instead of on top of it. With any
of these licks, make sure you are "seeing" the arpeggio of the chord under the
lick. Each note of the lick is either passing between or hitting notes in the chord.
The arpeggio of the chord lays out all of the chord tones, and the lick will be
using notes from the arpeggio as well as passing notes between the notes of the
chord.

Rhythmically, don't hesitate to count out loud. It helps to really understand

where and what the rhythms are for each lick. Scatting has always been a big
part of jazz music, so sing your licks out loud, count 'em, dance 'em, make 'em
swing!
