Rationale

Year 1 + 2 Goals

My goals for year one and two after receiving my Master’s degree will be mostly to gain more

experience in the classroom. Since I have only been teaching for three years, I feel, being in the

classroom for two more years will give me enough experience with instruction and classroom

management, that I will be able to move forward with other areas in education. Meanwhile, I

will also be taking additional professional development courses to enhance my teaching. “In the

field of K-12 education administration, it is particularly important for school administrators to

encourage teachers to pursue professional development, not only to ensure the best learning

outcomes for their students but also to be more effective and satisfied in various other aspects of

their work.” ("Importance of Professional Development for Educators," 2019)

Year 3

In year 3, my plan is to work towards getting an endorsement to become an Instructional

Strategist. This will prepare me to recognize and understand disabilities in students of various

ages as well as the psychological factors that affect these students. At the same time I will

observe or even shadow other Strategist that will give me a look into this field. Once I complete

my endorsement, I will start to look and apply for availabilities in this area.

Year 4
LOOKING FORWARD 4

I don’t know if this goal is realistic or not, but I would eventually like to work in designing

curriculum and instruction. Getting my endorsement in this field will prepare me to be an expert

in classroom instruction, assessment of student learning, and reading specialists. My main focus

will be on helping teachers integrate and apply national, state, and local academic standards into

relevant and significant classroom experiences that is designed to increase student achievement.

The instruction part of my endorsement will allow me to better help teachers develop and

integrate best practices in the psychology of teaching and learning, curriculum design, dynamic,

instructional strategies, and technology into their daily classroom practice.

Year 5

My ultimate goal is to design curriculum for other teachers. In order to impress prospective

employers, I will start making my own curriculum that follows the common core standards. This

artifact will not only be uploaded to my e-portfolio, but I will also bring a hard copy with me to

any interviews I may receive. This will truly show my passion for this field. “The instructional

designer (ID) plays an important role in the curriculum development process. An ID is an expert

in the learning process and advocates on behalf of the learner throughout the curriculum

development process.” ("Role of an Instructional Designer in Curriculum Development," 2019) I

really hope I achieve this goal of mine. I don’t know if it’ll happen in 5 years, but I sure will do

everything in my power to make it happen eventually.
