1) communications/modem speed;
2) screen appearance, such as foreground and background colors;
3) keyboard operation, such as setting the backspace character function;
4) vt100 terminal emulation, such as insert/replace mode, automatic line
wrapping, visible or invisible cursor, etc.;
5) session logging and default, such as logging (saving) for future reference
the commands and incoming signals that appear on your screen, saving your setup
options to a file as the default characteristics, and changing the Setup File
name.
Future Features.
We hope to add the following features as time and testing allow:
1) a dialing directory (or "batch file dialing") which will allow you to store
your most frequently dialed numbers and have them dialed by your computer in
response to a short command;
2) an expanded tutorial on using Real Accents!;
3) an expanded Help screen;
4) Page Up and Page Down functions.

individual or institution to use, copy and/or redistribute this program and its
documentation as long as:
To start this program, type "accents" (no quotation marks) after inserting
the diskette in the drive or loading the program accents.exe onto your hard-
disk. This program emulates the communications protocol for many features com-
mon to the vt100 terminal. You can easily change the command name ("accents")
by copying the file "accents.exe" to "anything.exe" or whatever. The characters
(up to 8) to the left of the string ".exe" will be the name which starts the
program. For example, if you copied the file "accents.exe" to anything.exe,
your typing the word "anything", then pressing the ENTER or RETURN key at the
DOS prompt, would start Real Accents!.
Pressing the following keys or key combinations will produce the display
or command execution explained to the right of the item. Note that "ALT-H"
means pressing the "Alt" key and holding it down while you press the "H" key
(lowercase: no shift). "ALT-T" is similar, but substitutes the "T" key for the
"H" key.
F5 Modem/Communications
F1 COM(munications) port = 1 or 2
F2 Baud rate = 50 75 110 150 300 600 1200
1800 2000 2400 4800 9600 19200 or 38400 bits of information per second
F3 Parity = EVEN, ODD or NONE
F4 Data bits = 5, 6, 7 or 8
You may want to consult your computer support specialist about the appro-
priate settings for the features identified above.
F6 Screen appearance
F1 Video Snow Retrace Wait = OFF or ON
F2 Foreground Color = BLUE (etc.)
F3 Background Color = LIGHTGRAY (etc.)
F4 Translation Mode = ON or OFF
The selection "Video Snow Retrace Wait = ON" prevents "snow" on some
CGA monitors' screens. Foreground color is the text's color while background
color is the rest of the usable screen. Translation mode is equivalent to
ALT-T. It enables or disables the character translation function. You can
switch back and forth while displaying the same screenful of information, but
you may have to "repaint" the screen to see the changes. The information
actually being transmitted between computers is not necessarily what you will
see on your screen. Real Accents! replaces certain two-character sequences
with one upper-ASCII character (usually an "accented" one).
F7 Keyboard Operation
F1 BackSpace Interpretation = BACKSPACE or DELETE
F2 KeyClick is OFF or ON
F3 Key Pad is set to NUMERIC or APPLICATION
F8 VT100 Emulation
F1 Origin Mode is ABSOLUTE or RELATIVE
F2 Insert/Replace mode is set to REPLACE or INSERT
F3 Auto Wrap mode is OFF or ON
F4 New Line mode is OFF or ON
F5 Cursor is VISIBLE or HIDDEN
F6 Background is NORMAL or REVERSED
F7 Logical Screen width is 80 or 132 columns
Once you have chosen the appropriate settings for all functions, you can
save them to a file on a diskette or hard-disk by selecting F1. Your foreground
and background choices will automatically appear the next time you use Real
Accents! Selecting F2 allows you to record all commands and screen displays
during your session. You can then print out your log for consultation and
distribution to a class, for example. F3 allows you to change the name of the
file holding your default settings. We have chosen the mnemonic 'termset.set',
but you might prefer something more personal, like 'john.trm' for "John's ter-
minal settings."

Note: These are the default character mapping conventions. If you wish to
use another translation set, you can load our French + German file, "frger.trn"
(which stands for "French and German character translation") or create your own
file in the same format by using an ASCII word-processor. After booting up the
program, use ALT-L to call up the file-loading prompt, and simply type in the
name of your accent file. Pressing ALT-A within Real Accents! will provide the
complete ASCII chart with the appropriate ASCII number for each character.
