HOW TO WRITE IMPRESSIVE STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (SOP)

Statement of purpose (SOP) is one of themost important parts of your application for abroad
study. It should be written by you for your educational provider and immigration
department to express who you are, your academic background, your experiences, interests,
motivations, incentives and your future goals after completing your applied course. It is like
writing a long essay by you to present a weighty interest of choosing preferred course, right
education provider, and a particular city or country in overall.

Statement of Purpose usually start like this:

“Respected Sir/Madam,

My name is XYZ, permanent resident of xx City, Pakistan, is applying for a student visa
to pursue my further study in “XXX” in Australia Institute of Business and Technology.
I am honored to apply for this program at AIBT because I have always wanted to gain
more knowledge and experience in XXX. In this statement, I would like to briefly
introduce myself, my family and academic backgrounds,as well to explain the reason to
choose Australia and AIBT to further my study.”

This testimony should also highlight your purpose and understanding of abroad study and
career development. youmust express your deeper understanding to thecourses. To cover
some basic questions that any admission department expect, here are some important points
to be considered:

1. Self Introduction

You can simply introduce yourself, your age, your hometown, your interests and so on.

2. Family Background

You can mention where your family resides, number of members and how they support
each other. Besides, acknowledge your father and mother profession and how they have
helped on your personal and academic development.

3. Academic Background

You may start as:

“My student life has been very exciting and memorable, mostly passionate about
Nursing/Accounting/Computer course.”

Then briefly introduce your provider and explain some learning contents and academic
completion date.

4. Gap Explanation & Internship (If any) must be less than 2 years
You may worry about visa refusal if there is any gap between your completed course and
current starting course date. There is nothing to worry if you can explain your gap period in
details. In most of the cases, it is covered by internship, work experiences, vocational
training and English language learning and its exam process. Be mindful to include dates
and your learning in quoted internship or work experiences, make your SOP more effective
by relating this to your study topic.

5. Working Experience

This part is rather important. If you have been working for a certain period, you should
firstly introduce your company, your job position, work experience and daily work contents,
and you should illustrate with examples why you suddenly want to further your study
instead of continuing working, such as facing huge work difficulties, willing to improve
self-ability at certain field, trying to get promoted, switching profession out of interest, etc.
All in all, you need to give appropriate explanations for your decision to pursue further
study.

6. Research regarding similar program being taught in home country

Show remarks of your research for similar courses in your home country, it is positive to
show awareness of options available. youmay mention that preferred course is not available
or not globally recognized or does not cover specific areas of study; can be a few reasons
that motivate you to choose overseas education provider. Also, you may list some domestic
providers and point out why they are not your optimal choice.

7. Why Australia/Particular City?

There are other countries like UK, Canada, USA, Canada and New Zealand who provides
similar standard of education and are popular destinations for international students. Wisely
do some research and find genuine reasons for choosing Australia among other nations and
its particular city for study destination. Make a comparison table between Australia and
other countries can obviously show the reasons for not choosing any other country. Any
referral from overseas teachers and friends can also be admitted. Here are few suggested
points:

• Wide variety of courses and degrees.

• Advanced education system.
• Safe and modern city.
• Affordable living expenses and tuition fee structure.
• Climate and Weather.

(e.g. Reasons for choosing Australia over India for further study
You can find many reasons if you compare course structures and standards. Few
reasons can be some programs not been available in your home country, local courses
only are recognized within country, more theoretical than practical study and other
factors affecting local education system.)
8. Reasons for choosing AIBT

You can find many reasons or useful information for choosing AIBT on our website. Some
key reasons can be affordable fees, social and cultural excursions, career development
support, scholarship opportunity and others. Besides, highlight the programs that leads to
recognition or accreditation by registered industry bodies such as Certified Practicing
Accountant (CPA), The Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ),
Australian Computer Society, Engineers Australia, Australian Health Practitioner
Regulation Agency etc. Location and their branches, student support and library support can
also be considered.

Some special activities also can be mentioned in appropriate cases, like AIBT can offer a
six-week orientation for new students to visit the institute and experience school activities in
advance, and this is a great advantage of this provider.

And the comparison between providers, by listing reasons make you choose one among
those providers who can offer similar courses, are also very convincing. Generally, you can
compare the duration, tuition fee, course location, course units, course package, study path,
learning and cultural environment, etc.

9. Awareness and Reason for choosing the proposedcourses:

This is a very important part of the statement. you should write about course description
(Course Number and CRICOS code), its duration, intake date, career paths, number of
subjects and total credit point, this information can be retrieved from education provider’s
website. In addition, you can also describe the benefits of takingthe proposed courses for
future employment opportunities and career plans in home country.

10. Incentives to return to Homeland after completing course

convincevisa assessing officer that you have genuine intention to stay in Australia
temporarily. Some incentives points to return back to homeland can be as:
(from career and family)

• Get promoted or a better career development in previous company.
• Social responsibility.
• Solving social issues and problems.
• Responsibility towards ageing parents, wife/husband, and children.
• To look after financial and banking side of family or personal business.

homeland.

support your study during the stay in Australia. If there is any education loan, it needs to be
included as well.
