Perspectives and Research
PR.2.P.1
Analyze methods for collecting data in the field of psychology

NARRATIVE
I will begin my class by letting my students get into groups of
about 3 or 4 and remind them to take out a piece of paper to jot
down some notes while watching the video. While sitting
together, I will direct their attention to the board, where I will then
begin playing this crash course video explaining all the ends and
out of Psychology research methods. Following the video, I will
pull up an example of a psychological study and point out the
hypothesis, cause and effect, experimental group, control group,
and all other factors of the research experiment. I will do this to
help prepare them for the next part of the lesson.
For the next part, I will provide handouts to each group of a

example a formal psychological study that is very official, but are

also relative to their age group and things they can relate with, so
that is easiest for the students to comprehend (Ex: Does social
media effect students’ grades; does gun violence in video games
increase violence in the players of the video games). Each study
will be different and include completely different hypothesis.
Using their notes, the students will work with their group to identify what
type of study is being performed, the hypothesis, cause and
effect, control groups, experimental groups, dependent and
independent variables, and all other terms discussed in the video, to each of their
given Psychological research experiment.

Conditioning, Learning, and Cognition
CLC.5.P.2
Evaluate the methods of conditioning and learning theories

NARRATIVE
The beginning of my class will start with all of the students watching the
video which explains Ivan Pavlov and his experiment proving Classical
Conditioning. Following the video, I will show a PowerPoint explaining the
Pavlov’s concept in a simpler way, using examples of various types of Classical
Conditioning, so that the students will for sure understand the concept. After giving
the students the extensive concept of Classical Conditioning I will expect them to

do some homework. For this homework they will need to come up with their own
type of Classical Conditioning experiment all focusing on a dog. If they do not
have a dog, they can use a friends dog, neighbors, or ask at a local dog shelter for
help. They must come up with their own type of classical conditioning experiment to
Observe (or train) the dog (Ex: dog runs to door when you grab leash because they
know they are about to go on a walk; dog hearing set of keys knows its time for a
car ride) and observe and record their findings for a week. I will give them a easy to
comprehend fill in the blank chart to jot down their findings, tracking each
day for a week. If the dog has no classical conditioning pre-experiment, the
students can attempt to train them and record their observations.
