Course Description
This course is designed for students with a strong mathematics background. All topics
essential to the common core Algebra I curriculum are covered which includes equations,
inequalities in one variable, polynomials, graphs, relations, functions, quadratic equations,
statistics, probability, exponents, radicals, and real numbers. A student must achieve a C to
continue on to Algebra 2 Level 1. They must pass this course in order to move on to
Geometry.

Behavior Expectations & Classroom Conduct

All students have a right to learn. Any actions that interfere with learning in my classroom will not be
tolerated. The following are disruptive, distracting, and not allowed:
● Arriving late
● Being unprepared
● Talking while I am teaching
● Putting head down on desk
● Using electronic devices
You will treat me and your classmates with respect and courtesy.
Use good language, good manners, follow directions, and use materials as intended

Materials
*3-ring binder
*Pencils
*Calculator (graphing calculator is NOT required)

Grading Policies
Straight points system (points earned ÷ total points)
Points
*Homework: 3 points
*Classwork: 5 – 25 points
*Mini Quizzes: 12 points (unannounced)
*Quizzes: 20 – 50 points (announced)
*Tests: 50 + points (announced)
All assignments are due when I check/collect them. Any time after that you will not receive
credit.

Technology
Students are expected to come to class with their Chromebook each day. Cell phones are not
permitted inside the classroom unless used for instructional purposes with permission. Students
may not use their phones as calculators.

Class Participation
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in class discussions and group work. This kind of
collaborative learning among students will foster the development of critical thinking, and it will
also help in clarification and evaluation of ideas.

Missed Work
You are expected to get all notes and assignments when you are absent. Homework missed due
to an excused absence is due within 5 days. Homework missed due to an unexcused absence is
due within 2 days. If notes were given that day you are responsible for copying them from a
classmate or checking Canvas to see what was covered that day. If you are absent on a day a quiz
or test is given, please plan on taking it the day you return. If you are absent for an extended
period of time, it is your responsibility to see if you have any missing work, quizzes, and/or tests
and arrange a mutually convenient time with me to make up the work. If you choose not to make
up any of the missing work the grade(s) will be zero(s).

Seated at the bell

When the bell rings, you should already be in your seat reading the days agenda with homework
out ready to be checked, then working on starter problem(s).

Bathroom
Students will be able to use the bathroom on a first come first serve basis. Students are not
allowed to use the bathroom when we are in the middle of a lesson.

Lockers
Because students are expected to come to class prepared there should be no need to go to their
lockers during class.

Students who are successful in this course are prepared for the
following courses:
Geometry
