To give and not to count the cost
Teach us, good Lord,
Prayer for Generosity to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous, to fight and not to heed the wounds,
teach me to serve you as I should, to toil and not to seek for rest,
To give and not to count the cost, to labour and not to ask for any reward,
To fight and not to heed the wounds, save that of knowing that we do your will. Amen.
To toil and not to seek for rest, (St. Ignatius Loyola)
To labour and ask not for reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your most holy will.
Amen. Day by day
(St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order)
Thanks be to you, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which you have given me,
Make me an instrument of your peace for all the pains and insults which you have borne for me.
O most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. may I know you more clearly,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love, love you more dearly,
Where there is injury, pardon; and follow you more nearly,
Where there is doubt, faith; day by day.
Where there is despair, hope; (St. Richard of Chichester)
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek Handing over to God
To be consoled, as to console,
To be understood, as to understand, Father,
To be loved, as to love, I abandon myself into your hands;
For it is in giving that we receive; do with me what you will.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; Whatever you may do, I thank you:
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. I am ready for all, I accept all.

Gift of peace
Sensitivity to others
Lord, help us to take a step back from our everyday concerns with our own
likes and dislikes. Help us to remember that we are not the only people who
feel strongly about things, who feel they are right, who like to have things
comfortable or as we want them. Help us to remember that other people are
in some way part of us, that what happens to them affects us. Help us to be
sensitive to the needs of others.
Amen.
Jesus' message is still respected two thousand years after he lived because he
had integrity. People could trust him. His actions lived up to his words. He
did what was needed to help the oppressed. He knew how to deal with both
his close followers and those who trusted him. He helped those who were
not strong enough to face up to their responsibilities or their true selves.
Life does not always turn out as we would like.
We don't know what others will ask of us.
We don't know when we shall find ourselves in unlikely and uncomfortable
situations.
Let's pray that Holy Spirit, given by Jesus as a gift, may guide and help us in
all our journey through life, wherever it takes us.
Amen
