Course Objectives

Study Skills is an academic support class for students with an Individualized Educational Plan. It is an elective course (you
do earn credit toward graduation) which will introduce students to the basic skills utilized for a successful educational experience in
high school and beyond. Students will receive assistance in the transition to high school and between grade levels with emphasis in
the areas of: AVID/WICOR strategies, Writing strategies, Executive Functioning skills, IEP goals support, guidance for college and
career preparation. Through modified individual-determination curriculum, students will improve self-advocacy skills, academic
self-esteem, and the ability to take control and responsibility for their academic lives. Students are expected to develop strategies to
help them become more efficient and effective learners and producers. Students will learn to weigh their own strengths and
weaknesses to set realistic goals for their academic advancement toward earning a high school diploma, what steps they must take in
order to obtain that diploma, and how to deal with roadblocks they many encounter on the way.
