Activity 1
What do you think makes for effective management of the classroom? Can you give
examples of what you have seen during school experience visits?
I think what makes for effective management of the classroom is when the teacher
knows what his/her teaching style and preferences are, has an established few rules for
easier implementation and easy for the students to remember and incorporating positive
reinforcement.
During my school visit, the teacher gave direct instruction to his class as to what will
happen during their class period. He also gave concise and simple instruction to his
students as to what activity that they will be doing. I also noticed that he maintain a
class discussion more engaging and he also give recognition to his students when they
participate in his class.

Activity 2
Think about the classroom that you have recently visited during your FS observations or
relevant experience. Under these three headings, list some of the factors you noted
related to the teacher’s classroom management.
Physical Social Educational
- Chairs are arranged - Respectful and - Credible and competent
neatly accommodating to his - Give clear instruction to
- Well ventilated students his students
- Spacious classroom - Always give recognition
- Safe to his students
- Less prone to noise
Activity 3
In the text box above, some examples of routines that may be established by a
classroom teacher are given.
Choose three and write down the details that you would include when teaching your
students these routines.
Think of more routines that you may introduce that are not on the list.

 Routines for working in small groups

 After forming the class in small groups, the teacher will then explain the
task clearly
 Set ground rules for group interaction like how group members should
interact with one another
 Allow students to ask legitimate questions about the activity

 Routines for cleaning up at the end of a lesson

 Have students fill out an application for a specific classroom job that they
would like to have. At the end of each lesson, students must do their job
before they can go and leave the class.
 Routines for all students to follow when entering the room
 Tell the students to enter the room quietly and politely
 Ask them to remove their hat if they have one
 Don’t interrupt other students

Routines that I may introduce that are not on the list

 Routines for beginning of class

 Routines for movement out of the classroom
Activity 4

Reflect on one of your lessons which you have taken during school experience or one
you have seen taken by your supervising teacher. Give examples where the teacher
used any of the strategies discussed.

From what I have experienced during my high school day, my teacher used routine
activities regularly in our class. Before starting our lesson there was this routine where
my teacher will always ask someone to lead the prayer for the day. It was to create a
harmonious and peaceful environment for the whole class period. During collecting of
assignments, she will ask us to place all of our assignment notebooks on the corner of
her desk and then will return it the next meeting. That way we will be more attentive and
focused on what she is discussing to us. And when my subject teacher is being called
away from the room, he/she will instruct us to refrain from making any noise while
he/she is gone and not make any unnecessary movements inside the classroom. My
teacher also use a classroom strategy wherein she will always require us to show our
lecture notebooks (with our writings during the class period) to her before we will be
allowed to leave the classroom. And before we will be allowed by our class adviser to
leave the classroom, we will be asked to arrange all the chairs and clean the room.
