ELL students can access replay the recording if they need the audio to repeat a phrase back to
them in English.
Students with an auditory disability can read the text on each slide.
Students with a visual disability can have the audio recording repeated multiple times.
The final timeline they create will be created either on paper, or on a computer app. This shows differentiation
through the various means of platforms students can choose to create their timeline on. Ideally, the students
will be given 1-2 days to research their historical person and a separate day to create their timeline. To
summarize the lesson, I will have my students address 3 key points or facts they learned about each person
and 1 sentence to summarize each person impact during that historical time period.
Reflective Practice:
This lesson impacts students learning by promoting creativity, since they can choose the platform to use to
create the historical timeline. It also allows students to understand sequencing and chronological order
through the range of dates each person lived. Sequencing places a role with the timeline as students organize
the dates. To further extend this lesson, I would have the students use the timeline as a part of a “final”
project for the end of the unit where each student would be assigned to one historical figure and they would
present their research to the class on a poster board, PowerPoint, word document, etc. Other possible
technology tool that could support this lesson is the website bubbl.us for students to brainstorm and organize
their ideas.
