2.2 INTERVALS

2.2.1 MONTHLY

2.2.1.1 Cleaning the Vacuum System of the P&P Head Z-axes


Depending on the environmental and production conditions the Z-axes vacuum system get
contaminated with flash and dust slower or faster.
A highly contaminated vacuum system will result in vacuum errors of the handler.
Therefore a regular inspect and cleaning cycle is recommended.
Note
For cleaning, the Z-Axis must be removed from the P&P head.
To prevent a complex teaching procedure after re-installing the
cleaned Z-Axis, mark the Z-Axis and re-install it at the same
position, where you removed it!

Preparing the Handler


Open the cover of Input P&P and / or Output
P&P, depending on which Z-Axis (voice coil)
should be removed.

Removing a Z-Axis from the P&P Head

1. Open connector lock (arrows) and remove plug


(1).

2. Remove the vacuum hose (1) from the Z-axis.

3. Remove the fastening screw (1).


4. Pull the Z-axis (2) downwards out of the P&P
Head.

Removing the Z-Axis Cover

1. Open vacuum filter holder (1).


2. Remove vacuum hose (2) from vacuum filter (3)
and pull the filter out of the holder.

3. Remove all fastening screws from the cover (1).

4. Remove the cover (1) from the Z-axis.

2. Loosen fastening screw (1).


3. Pull off tube (2).

Note
Take care not to damage the flex ca-
ble. Do not kink it. Kinks will cause
failures.

4. Remove plug (1).


5. Draw coil (2) out.

6. Attach cleaner inside the bore (1).

7. Use a pipe cleaner to clean the bore (1) and


edges (2).

8. Check the fit (1) of the bore with a pin gauge with
diameter 4.03mm. Pin gauge must not fit into
bore.
If gauge fits into, then the bore is worn out and
the whole VCM assembly needs to be replaced.

9. Check bore also from the other side (1).


If gauge fits into, then the bore is worn out and
the whole VCM assembly needs to be replaced.

10. Clean shaft (1) with Loctite 7063.

12. Put little oil MPZ.371 on a cotton swab.

Note
Take care that there is only a thin
film of oil inside the bore. Too much
oil will cause problems, like jams of
the voice coil or oil on devices.

13. Grease bore (1) inside with a thin film of oil.


14. Wipe off the edges (2) with a cloth.

16. Slide coil (1) a few times in and out.

17. Check that the coil (1) is running smooth.


If it runs hard, check it for scratches or other
damages. Replace it, if it is worn out.

18. Clean end of the axle (1) at the position of the


fastener. Make sure there remains no oil on this
position.

19. Attach the fastener (1). Do not fix it yet.

20. VCM PARALLEL ADJ GAGE CPL necessary


21. Check that the spring loaded ball bearing (2)
protrude 1.4 mm. If not, adjust it.

22. Fasten Adjustment Gage with screw (1) on voice


coil.

Note
The spring loaded ball bearing pus-
hes the coil forward to the very end.
This position is important for the next
adjustment.

Orientation of reception (1) is now correct.

23. Put a thickness gauge (1) 0.25 mm into the gap.


24. Fasten screw (2).

Note

25. Connect plug (1) again.


26. Fasten cable protector (2) again.

Cleaning the Z-Axis Body, Vacuum Reception and Tube

1. Unplug vacuum hose (1) from the vacuum


sensor (not visible).

2. Remove vacuum hose (1) from the tube (2).

3. Remove vacuum distribution block (1) from the


Z-Axis (2).

CAUTION
Flying particles

Eyes can get injured.


Wear goggles!

4. Clean the vacuum sensor fitting carefully with


compressed air. Do not blow directly into the fit-
ting!
5. Clean the whole Z-Axis with compressed air.

6. Clean the Locking Solenoid from both sides with


pressured air to prevent homing errors.

7. Check function of lock (1). Draw spindle out.


Lock (2) must snap in.

8. Check solenoid valve. In locked position pin (1)


touches lever.

9. Push lever down. Pin (1) of solenoid must follow


due to its own weight.
If pin is sluggish.
Clean plunger and solenoid valve.

10. Remove two screws (1).


11. Remove fastener (2).
12. Draw plunger (3) out.
13. Clean plunger and valve inside.

14. Blow through the vacuum chuck reception (1).

15. Clean the vacuum chuck reception (1) and the


vacuum tube (2) with a pipe cleaner (3) and iso-
propyl alcohol.

16. Again, blow through the vacuum chuck


reception (1).

17. Clean the fittings (1) carefully with a pipe


cleaner.

Cleaning the Vacuum Filter

1. Remove the filter housing (1) from the filter body


(2) as shown.

2. Clean the filter body (1) with compressed air.

3. Finally blow through the fitting (1).

4. Clean the filter housing (1) with compressed air.

5. Bend the end of a pipe cleaner (1) as shown.


6. Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to the
bended part of the pipe cleaner.

7. Clean the filter housing as shown.

8. Re-assemble the cleaned filter.

Cleaning Vacuum Hoses and Distributor Block

1. Remove the protection spring (1) from the


vacuum hose (2).

2. Remove the O-rings (1) from the vacuum distri-


bution block (2).

CAUTION
Flying particles

Eyes can get injured.


Wear goggles!

3. Clean the vacuum distribution block (1) with


compressed air.

4. Blow through each connected vacuum hose.

5. Apply isopropyl alcohol at a pipe cleaner.

6. Clean each vacuum hose with the pipe cleaner.


Move the pipe cleaner as far as possible into the
vacuum distribution block.
7. If the pipe cleaner is dirty, cut the dirty part off,
apply isopropyl alcohol again and continue.

8. Clean the holes of the vacuum distribution block


as shown.
9. Finally blow compressed air through all vacuum
hoses.

10. Attach the protection spring (1) at the vacuum


hose (2) again.
11. Attach the vacuum filter (2) as shown.

Re-assembling the Z-Axis

1. Insert new O-rings MSD.475 (2 per hole) into the


holes of the vacuum distribution block (1).

2. Inspect that the O-rings are sitting flush in the


housing.

3. Connect the hose (1) with the vacuum sensor (2)


as shown.

4. Carefully stick the vacuum distribution block (1)


onto the fittings (2) as shown.

5. Prepare the threads for fastening the voice coil


cover with Loctite glue No. 222 (1) as shown.

6. Place the cover (1) as shown at the Z-Axis.


7. Fasten the cover with slotted counter sunk head
screws.

8. Insert the vacuum filter (1) into the holder (2),


simultaneously connect hose (3) with the filter.
9. Retract the filter a bit so that the hose (3) is not
buckled.
10. Tighten the clamping screw (4) without cracking
the filter housing.
