Running Head: Domain B Justification of Artifacts 2
Abstract
Learning. I will explain the need for a visual reference of lifting techniques, the way students
track their strength progression, and the minimum standards for the state mandated physical
fitness test. It should be noted that as a weight training teacher I write my own curriculum and
through observation of technique, physical capabilities, and effort level that is given by each
student. Artifact 1 is a series of posters that are located in the weight room where students can
reference a particular motion or element of the lifting technique they may not understand.
Differentiation is a critical element of Physical Education and weight training and providing a
multitude of teaching methods should be used to reach all students. As students are actively
lifting I give them audible tips on technique adjustments then I can visually demonstrate and
Artifact 2 is the PFT tracking chart that our school district sends to us at the beginning of
the second semester. We are given spread sheets on all of our freshman students as well as upper
classmen that have not yet passed it. However, our school district does not bother to obtain a
student’s PFT data from the school they may have transferred from and as a result we must make
them retake the PFT. This has happened each of my 3 years working in the PE department; we
have had to retest juniors and seniors who were not even enrolled in PE. Once we enter the data
into the shared Google document the corresponding columns will turn either red or green
notifying if the student achieved the minimum score. A student will only be retested in the
Artifact 3 is the Physical Fitness Standards that male students must achieve per the state
requirements. These PFT standards are posted in the locker room for student reference. Often
times I will not tell a student what a minimum passing score is because then that becomes the
bar, it is set at the minimum height. I encourage students to give their maximum effort, and then
evaluate the results to see if it qualifies. The PFT can be taken as many times as needed and only

the top scores from each category will count. For example, if a student ran a 9 minute mile and
did 4 push-ups, then retook the PFT and ran a 10 minute mile and did 7 push-ups the best score
