‘THE SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1. AND
THE TECHNOLOGY ACCESS FOUNDATION
REGARDING A PARTNERSHIP TO CREATE
[AHIGH QUALITY 6 THROUGH 12™ GRADE PROGRAM
Recognizing the tremendous success of TAF Academy, @ 6.12% grade STEM school designed by TAF and
comanagea with the Federal Way School Distriet, Seatle School District No.1 (hereinafter refered to as the
District"), 8 municipal corporation inthe State of Washington, andthe Technology Recess Foundation (TAF), 2
501(c)3 nonprofit, hereby outine their Intent to enter into an agreement to create TAF Academy Seatle by
implementing the TAF model ito an exiting public school The underiving assumptions are thatthe schools
neighborhood District schoo, c-managed by the District and TAF, staffed with teachers who belong tothe Seattle
Education Assocation, a principal who belongs tothe Principals Assocation of Seattle Schools, and others who
belong to their respective unions
‘This Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") does not intend to create a binding legal o financial obligation of
any nature on either party, but instead, wil serve simply as @ summary of the tentative understandings of the
partes as ofthis date, regarding the proposed Project defined herein. Once tis MOU is fully executed, the parties
‘hall proceed in good faith to research the possibilities, engage the community, and vltimately negotiate 3 final
‘Agreement based upon this MOU to establish the parties’ relationship and responsbilies to eachother and the

In order to close the academic gaps experienced by students of coer, the District is interested in
‘changing the structure and academic model of one ofits existing schools
‘The new configuration s envisioned asa 6th-32th grade program that wll use the STEMyTAF medel
‘that focuses on building an academic environment that eliminates race-based disparity in academic
achievement and promotes the highest level of stent learning and teacher development.
‘Te program is envisioned fora neighborhood schoo! and is tentatively referred to herein as TAF
‘Academy Seattle, TAF Acaderny Seattle wil roll-up mile school starting with 6° grade and adding one
trade per year, and may add 9", 10%, 11° & 12° each subsequent year. The parties wll work together
to identify an appropriate proposed schoo! location forthe program.
"Identify funding sourees and pro forma funding, ongoing and intial setup transformation
‘The program will require additional external sources of funding to support the implementation ofthe
STEMbyTAF academic model, The parties wil work together to identify potential funding and strategies
to develop a financial sustainable program. The proposed funding structure wil be analyzed versus the
existing cistrict-wide WSS model currently in use
* Identification of capacty challenges, enrollment trends over the next 10 years of selected schoo!
and surrounding school impacts
‘The parties wil utlize the District’ Facilities Master Plan and enrallment trends to ensure the program
and District have suficient student capacity forthe fist 10 years of the partnership. This may include
changing the Student Assignment Pian (SAP) 0 allow students to choose outa the school hosting the
“TAF Academy Seattle program for middle schoo! or attend the comprehensive high school based onthe
location of thelr esiderce. Enrollment and program planning will also ensue that Advanced Learing
‘qualified students have access to suitable coursework.+ Community Engagement
‘The District and TAF wil develop and implement an extensive community engagement plan prior to
instituting @ formal partnership. The community includes students, teachers, families and community
advocates,
